Announcements — December 8, 2019

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Walter R., recovering from surgery on his Achilles tendon; Jack H., at St. Luke’s dealing with multiple health issues; Katherine R., recovering from a broken hip; Sue V., at  St. Luke’s receiving rehab after a broken hip; Kathy P., suffering health issues; Stephen Ministry and their care receivers.

† CONSTITUTION CHANGES  There will be a very brief Voters’ Meeting held right after the service today, to get approval on some changes that need to be made to the GSLC Constitution.

† TRAINS OPEN HOUSE  Saturday, December 14, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Doug & Peggy S. will be hosting an open house featuring Christmas trains!  It will be at their home in Carthage.  All kids are invited, “big kids” too.  Come enjoy some refreshments and Christmas fun! 

† ANGEL TREE  The angel tree items were due to be back and under the tree by today.  If you haven’t put yours under the tree yet, please bring them to the church this week by Tuesday so they can be picked up by the Salvation Army.  Remember they should be unwrapped with the tag attached.  Thanks for your support of this project.

† MIDWEEK ADVENT SERVICES  As in recent years, Good Shepherd will    provide midweek worship services at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm each    Wednesday during Advent.  Please join us!

† STORIES OF THE SAVIOR  The Sunday School Christmas program is     scheduled for Sunday, December 15, at 7:00 pm.  Today we will have a longer rehearsal following the service and end with lunch.  December 15 we will have a dress rehearsal during the Sunday School hour, followed by a cupcake celebration.  We would really appreciate it if we could have as many students here at rehearsals as much as possible because it will make things run smoother.  Please encourage your children to get excited about this special opportunity to tell the story of Jesus’ birth to our church     family!

† ADVENT DEVOTIONS  Daily Devotionals for December can be found on the table outside the nursery along with Portals of Prayer.  You will also find a half-sheet order of service to use along with your daily devotional that includes some prayers on the back.   

† POINSETTIAS  If you would like to purchase a poinsettia(s) to help adorn the sanctuary at Christmas, please use the sign-up sheet on the table        in the narthex and prepay Diana Endicott.  The cost is $8.00 each.  Please see Diana with any questions.

† NURSERY/CRY ROOM  Should your child become distressed or distract others during the service, a furnished nursery/cry room is located in the narthex for your use.  Please ask one of the ushers if you need directions.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

† BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the nurse’s office after the  service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

† LWML FALL BAKE SALE  A huge THANK YOU to everyone who brought bake sale items and who generously donated last Sunday.  LWML received $538.00 in donations which is Fantastic!

† ANGEL TREE  There are a few tags left on the tree set up in the Narthex. The tags list suggested items for kids in need in our area.  If you would like to participate, please take a tag from the tree, replace it with an angel  ornament from under the tree, purchase one or more of the items, and then place the unwrapped items back under the tree with the ornament attached by next Sunday, December 8.  This project is being coordinated by our Sunday School in cooperation with the local Salvation Army.  Please consider taking an ornament tag to help meet the needs of others in our   community.  Thanks for your support of this project.

† BAPTISM  We rejoice with Tim and Kahlie M. at the baptism of their son, Caleb Blake M., in the service this morning.  Caleb was born April 30, 2018.  His sponsors are Don and Joann W., Zachery B. and Jessica Jones.  We ask God to bless this family always with His love and grace.

† THE LWML FALL BAKE SALE is this morning.  Check out all the tasty    goodies available in the narthex and support our LWML.

† THANKSGIVING EVE WORSHIP  Join us this Wednesday, November 27,   at 7:00 pm, for a special Thanksgiving Eve Service with Holy Communion. 

† SUNDAY SCHOOL COMMUNITY SUPPORT  For the month of November GSLC is collecting ravioli and chicken noodle soup for Carthage Bright     Futures.  Please make sure the cans are easy open with the tabs.  We    prefer these small containers of ravioli, but will also take the bigger cans  as long as they are the easy open.  Please contact Nicole B., if you have any questions.
