WANTED: USED LAPTOPS The Board of Education is asking for donations of used laptops to be used by the Sunday School. If you have any questions, please visit with Karen Perkins. There is more information in the February Newsletter about how they will be utilized.

SUBSCRIPTION RENEWAL The Lutheran Witness, it’s about your faith, your church, your world. The new subscription year begins in April. If you would like to receive or renew a subscription for 2012, please use the sign up sheet in the narthex. The cost is $15.00. You may put the amount in the offering plate marked Lutheran Witness, or mail a check to the church office.

YOU’RE INVITED The aunts and cousins of Hailey Waggoner invite you to a bridal shower for Hailey this afternoon at 2:00 pm, in the fellowship hall here at the church. Her wedding date is March 10. The couple is registered at Target and Wal-Mart.

THE OVER –50 GOOD SHEPHERDS meet this Thursday evening at 6:00 pm. Food! Fellowship! Fun!

LADIES’ NIGHT OUT DINNER Ladies and gents alike, mark your calendars! On Sunday, Feb. 19, you won’t want to miss this always fun and entertaining evening, when the guys serve the girls a delicious, sometimes even called, gourmet dinner. The evening begins at 5:00 when Terry S., aka Barney Fife, will show up to entertain us. Please use the sign up sheet in the narthex so we know how many to prepare for. Also, don’t forget to bring a dessert to share for the much anticipated dessert buffet.

DAYTIME MIDWEEK LENTEN SERVICE ADDED Lent starts Wednesday, Feb. 22, and this year we have added an additional midweek service during the daytime at 11:00 am. This will give those who do not drive at night, or who have evening obligations, an opportunity to attend the midweek services. Wednesday evening services will begin at 7:00 pm.

FLOWER CHART There are lots of empty spaces on the flower chart, so if you would like to place flowers at the altar for a special occasion or in memory of someone, please sign the chart hanging on the wall next to the water fountain in the hallway. Simply write your name, phone number, and occasion with the pen provided.

CD’S AND TAPES OF THE SERVICE Audio tapes and CD’s of the service are available after the 8:15 am service each Sunday. They are located in the glassed-door cabinet in the narthex.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers. They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the narthex after each service. You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

LIFE SUNDAY This Sunday is the anniversary date of Roe v Wade which legalized abortion in 1973. Life Sunday emphasizes that our church body continues to support the sanctity of human life and opposes abortion on demand and euthanasia. Life Sunday also reminds us of God’s grace freely given to us in Christ Jesus for all our wrong chooses.

THE 70 & OVER FOLKS who attended the dinner last Sunday want to give the Youth Group and all those who helped with this wonderful evening of food and entertainment a great big THANK YOU. It was great!!!

VOTERS’ MEETING The Voters’ Assembly will meet this evening at 7:00. Along with the regular business of the congregation we will elect our delegate to the Missouri District Convention.

CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS A few days ago we discovered a glitch in the process of the 2011 offering statements. Sunday, February 13, was not included in the statements we printed. If you have not yet picked up your statement, it will be manually corrected before you receive it.  If you have received it and want your statement corrected for income taxes purposes, please see Curt S. for a corrected statement. He will be available after both services the next few weeks. Our apologies for any inconveniences this may have caused you.

SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY We are having a drive to add lots of cans of soup to the pantry at Crosslines. Bring your donations the next couple of weeks and place them in the large round container in the narthex or in the shopping cart in the entryway of the Fellowship Hall. Nan says her goal is to have 300 cans by Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 5. We CAN do it!!!

THE BOARD OF EDUCATION is meeting today after the late service. Interested in having a voice concerning the Christian education of our children? We need you to be a part of this very important board. Lunch will be provided.

70 & OVER DINNER Today at 5:00 pm, all members (and their spouses) that are 70 years of age and over are invited to attend the annual dinner prepared and served especially for them by the Youth Group. Not only will you be waited on and served a wonderful meal, you will be entertained, too. Do you need a ride or the meal delivered to your home? That can be provided ~ just relay that to any member of the Youth Group or Shelley W. This special event is always a lot of fun for both the younger members and the older members. We hope to see you tonight.

Announcements — January 15, 2012

IN OUR PRAYERS Tom D., recovering from a knee replacement; Don H., undergoing treatment for cancer; Sue V., recovering at home.

FAYE KLEEMAN was received into the arms of her Lord on Jan. 9, 2012 at the age of 85. A funeral service was held on Friday, Jan. 13, at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar. Interment was at Lake Cemetery. We pray for comfort for Faye’s family.

70 & OVER DINNER Next Sunday, Jan. 22, at 5:00 pm, all members (and their spouses) that are 70 years of age and over are invited to attend the annual dinner prepared and served especially for them by the Youth Group. Do you need a ride or the meal delivered to your home? That can be provided ~ just relay that to any member of the Youth Group or let the church office know. THE CHURCH COUNCIL will meet this evening at 7:00. All newly elected officers and board chairmen are part of the church council and are asked to attend. Voters’ Meeting will be on Sunday evening, Jan. 29.

THE ELDERS will meet next Monday evening, the 23rd, at 7:00 pm rather than the regularly scheduled meeting for this Monday.

PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace. We have had reports and words of thanks from folks being blessed by this outreach ministry.
