Announcements — September 11, 2016

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Carlin P., recovering from shoulder surgery; Kathy P., suffering health issues; Gary D., Sara P., undergoing treatment for cancer.

† CALL APPROVED  After reviewing the pastoral candidates submitted by the Call Committee at the Special Voters’ Meeting held Sunday, Aug. 14, it was voted to issue a Call to Reverend Derek Roberts.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL OFFERING  Starting in September and going through the end of the year, Sunday School offerings, both the adult and the children’s, are being designated to Immanuel Lutheran’s Comfort Dog Team’s fund for medical expenses.  Our previous goal for Children’s Haven was $1,000 and we achieved that goal.  Lets see if we can exceed that amount this time!  Thanks so much for your support of this project.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP will have a planning meeting next Sunday evening at 6:00 pm in the youth room.  Bring your ideas and calendars along to start scheduling some fun activities for this fall and winter.

† LADIES NIGHT OUT  Mark your calendars for this year’s Ladies Night Out, hosted by the LWML, which will be held on Monday, October 10, at 6:30 pm.  Sorry for the slight change in the original date.  It will be held at Diana E.’s house in Neosho.  All ladies are invited and encouraged to come!!!

† Jr. Confirmation instruction will start in September.  Jr. Confirmands and their parents are asked to talk with Pastor Mackie today after the service.  Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation will be provided to each new Confirmand, but each student will need to bring their own Bible to class.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL  There will be a meeting on Sunday, October 2, after the late service to discuss the current Sunday School material and to start planning for this year’s Christmas Program.  Anyone currently helping with Sunday School or interested in helping out is encouraged to attend.

† SHEPHERD’S OWN  After a brief summer hiatus, The Shepherd’s Own will resume weekly rehearsals beginning this week on Wednesday. Rehearsals are held 6:30-7:30 pm.  If you enjoy singing praises to the Lord in four-part harmony, and fellowship with a fun group of sinner-saints, now would be a good time to join the group – no audition required!

† PORTALS OF PRAYER  You will find the newest edition of the Portals of Prayer on the table by the nursery in the narthex.

† LWML QUARTERLIES  The new fall quarterlies are on the table by the nursery in the narthex.

† Nominating Committee  If you would be willing to serve on the nominating committee this fall, please contact Dave Wacker. The nominating committee is responsible for providing a slate of willing individuals to serve in elected positions of our Lord’s church here at Good Shepherd.

† Organist Needed  If you or someone you know can play the piano or organ and would be willing to play for church one Sunday per month, please let Pastor or Greg Golden know.  We are looking to add another player to the organist roster!

† BACK TO TWO SERVICES  Today we return to our regular two services.  Worship services are at 8:15 and 10:45 am with Sunday School and Adult Bible Class at 9:30 am.

† WEDNESDAY MORNING SCRIPTURE STUDY will not meet this Wednesday, September 7.  Class will resume Wednesday, September 14.

† MEAL DELIVERY  Thank you to all those who helped with the Over 60 Center meal delivery.  What a great way to help support our local community!  The Area Agency on Aging will be hosting a volunteer appreciation night for all those who helped.  The event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Carthage Senior Center.  There will be pizza and prizes.  Please RSVP no later than Sept. 10 to (417)358-4741.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY DAY  Today, to kick off our new Sunday School year, there will be a balloon launch and special activities during Sunday School.  This evening, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, there will be a Rally Day Slumber Party with movies, games, and snacks.  We won’t actually sleep over (it’s a school night) but feel free to come in your PJ’s if you’d like.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

† ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service,   assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a  transistor radio and you can control the volume.

† BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the nurse’s office after the       service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure    readings.
