Announcements — May 1, 2011

ATTENTION ALL GRADUATES  If you are graduating from high school, college, tech school, etc. we want to hear about it.  Please get a picture with a bio to the church office today.  We want to publish your accomplishments and future plans in the May issue of the Shepherd’s Staff.  Parents, we may need your help with this, we don’t want to leave anyone out, but if we don’t have the information we can’t print it.  Thanks.

LWML SPRING RALLY  The Spring Rally of the LWML is this afternoon at First Lutheran Church, Neosho.  Registration begins at 2:30 pm.  Please contact the church office if you need a ride.  All ladies of the congregation are invited.  

USHERS please check the box in the narthex marked USHERS and pick up your copy of usher duties and the schedule for the remainder of 2011.  If you cannot serve the month you are assigned, please contact Tom D.

VOTERS’ ASSEMBLY  This evening at 7:00 pm, the Voters will meet to vote on the new additions to the Church Constitution printed below, in addition to its normal business.  All confirmed members are eligible to be a part of the Voters’ Assembly.

MARTIN LUTHER SCHOOL in Joplin is having their spring celebration and auction, “GOOD VIBRATIONS!”, this Saturday, May 7, at the Holiday Inn.  The evening will be filled with fun, fellowship, great food, music, and dancing as they celebrate and raise money to support the mission of Martin Luther School.  If you would like to attend, or make a contribution, please call 417-624-1403 for more information.

ALTAR FLOWERS  Diana E. has agreed to coordinate the altar flowers for our
congregation.  She asks if anyone wants to help, please contact her.  

PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.  We have had reports and words of thanks from folks being blessed by this outreach ministry. 

ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

Additions to the Church Constitution concerning memorial contributions to be voted on at the May 1 Voters’ Assembly:

Bylaw E.2.m

The board of Elders shall prepare a list of Special Projects Suggestions for designated memorial contributions.  This list shall be presented to the voters in the January meeting of each calendar year.  This list shall consist of a minimum of two (2) projects for designated memorial contributions.  Generally the list should be six (6) or fewer annually.  Projects not listed can be approved for the current calendar year by the Board of Elders.
 
Bylaw D.5

The financial secretary shall allocate the designated memorials to one of the items on the Special Projects Suggestions list no later than 60 days after receipt of the contribution in accordance with the donors instructions.  If a designation is not made by the donors within 60 days the contribution shall be credited to the general fund.  The Special Projects Suggestions, established charities, or an organized Christian church group may be specified by the donor for designated memorials.

OUR THANKS to everyone who helped with: breakfast, food and serving, moving things around, the Easter egg hunt, music, decorations, Easter Lilies, and everything else to make this Easter Day a special celebration.  Thank you!

REMEMBER IN PRAYER  Parker A., Mary P.s’ grandson, having surgery on Monday; Bill S., moving to Missouri Veteran’s Home, Mt. Vernon;  Phil T., undergoing treatment for cancer.

NAME TAG SUNDAY  We are asking everyone to wear a name tag today to help us to get to know each other a little better.  The tags are available in the narthex. 

THE ELDERS will meet Monday evening at 7:00 pm.

PLAY BALL  The church softball league begins play this week. Our co-ed team will play on Monday evenings and the men’s team will play on Tuesday evenings.  Check Events this week in the bulletin each Sunday for game times. All the games are played on the same field as last year at Carthage Municipal Park.  GO TEAMS!

MIDWEEK LENTEN SERVICES  We are having midweek Lenten services on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 during the Lenten season.  Portions of the Passion story of Jesus will be read during each service.  Please join us this Lenten season.

THE CHURCH COUNCIL will meet this evening at 7:00.  All members of the church council are encouraged to attend. 

SIGN-UPS FOR EASTER  There are sheets in the narthex for you to sign-up to bring food, to help with setting-up, serving, or cleaning up for our annual breakfast Easter morning.  Already prepared casseroles, sweet rolls, and cut up fruit are still needed.  Please help if you can, many hands make for lighter work for everyone.  Thanks.

THE OVER-50 GOOD SHEPHERDS will meet this Thursday evening at 6:00.  Bring a bite to eat and join the fun. 

CROSSLINES WORK DAY  Join in giving a helping hand at Crosslines of Carthage on Friday morning of this week.  Hours are 8:00 am–12:00 noon.  Can’t stay for four hours?  That’s fine, an hour would be much appreciated.  Contact Nan B. for more information.
