Announcements — February 16, 2014

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Nan B., recovering from eye surgery; Savanna J., undergoing tests; Fern H., at Webb City Health and Rehab; Tim S.,  Lois H. (Pastor and Mary’s sister), Andrea H. (Joann W.’s mother), and Paula B., undergoing treatment for cancer.

† THE ANNUAL LADIES’ NIGHT OUT DINNER begins at 5:00 pm today.  Ladies, the men will be serving us, so come prepared for a nice dinner along with entertainment provided by Duke Mason.  Bring your favorite dessert to add to the famous dessert buffet.  Childcare will be available for the kids with dinner provided.  There will be an offering collected for Duke Mason.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF) will meet next Sunday here at the church at 6:00 pm.  Much is on the agenda so please plan on being here.

† 70 AND OVER DINNER  The youth group will be serving a four course meal to those in our congregation who are 70 years of age (four score and ten) and older Sunday evening, March 9, at 5:00.  It is one way our youth wish to show their appreciation for these seasoned congregational members.  More details later, but mark your calendars now for this wonderful evening.

† THANK YOU, THANK YOU!  Nan B. would like to say a special thank you to everyone who participated in the “Souper” Bowl can drive for Crosslines of Carthage.  After all the donations were tallied, Good Shepherd ended up donating a total of 626 items!  Wow, what a SUPER success it was!

† AN USHER INSTRUCTIONAL/RECOGNITIONAL MEETING has been set for Monday, February 24, at 6:30 pm.  If you are an usher this year, please plan to attend.  We need your expertise and ideas.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL  Are you interested in teaching a Sunday School class?  Do you want to be a substitute Sunday School teacher?  The Christian Education Committee is always looking for more help.  If you are interested, there is a sign up sheet posted on the Christian Education bulletin board in the narthex to the left of the elevator.

† 2013 CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS are ready for you to pick up.  They are on the round table in the narthex.

† FLOWER CHART  If you would like to place flowers at the altar for a special occasion or in memory of someone, please sign the flower chart hanging on the wall next to the water fountain in the hallway.  Simply write your name, phone number, and occasion with the pen provided.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

† BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the nurse’s office after each service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

† ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

† VALENTINE BAKE SALE  The LWML Valentine bake sale is today in the narthex after both services.  Proceeds will help offset convention costs, among other things.  Be sure to check out the delicious goodies!

† OVER-50 GOOD SHEPHERDS meet this Thursday at 6:00 for food, fellowship and games.  You are welcome to join this informal group for an evening of fun and laughter. 

† IT WAS A SUPER “SOUPER” MONTH!  Starting in January through February 2, Souper Bowl Sunday, Good Shepherd donated 466 items to Crosslines of Carthage.  What a SUPER success it was!  Thank you for all your help in supporting this worthy cause!

† SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY  It is Super Bowl Sunday, or as we’ve been calling it, “Souper” Bowl Sunday.  Thanks to all those who have helped collect canned soup, dried beans and rice to help fill the shelves at Crosslines of Carthage.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF) will not be meeting tonight.  The meeting has been rescheduled for Sunday, February 9, at 6:00 pm.

† VOTERS’ MEETING  The first voters’ meeting for 2014 will be held this evening at 7:00 pm.  All members, 18 years of age and older are eligible to be a part of the voters’ assembly.

† VALENTINE BAKE SALE  The LWML will be having a Valentine bake sale on Sunday, February 9, in the narthex after both services.  Proceeds will help offset convention costs, among other things.  Ladies, please plan to help us out and deliver your goods to the church early on the 9th or the day before.  Lora Wacker and Brenda Kirn will be handling the display and collection of goodies.

† SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY  The Super Bowl, or as we’ve been calling it “Souper” Bowl, is next Sunday.  Through the month of January we have collected canned soup, dried beans and rice to help fill the shelves at Crosslines of Carthage.  If you haven’t had a chance to get involved, bring your donations next Sunday and place them in the round container in the narthex or the shopping cart in the entry downstairs.  Let’s finish strong and make our biggest donation yet!

† OFFERING ENVELOPES  The 2014 offering envelopes are on the table in the narthex.  Please remember to discard your 2013 envelopes and use only the 2014 envelopes.  If you do not see your name and want envelopes, please contact the church office.  Likewise, if you prefer not to use them and see your name, simply write NO on the label.

† LWML QUARTERLIES  The new Quarterlies are on the table by the nursery in the narthex.  Ladies, remember to pick one up!

† PORTALS OF PRAYER  You will find the newest edition of the Portals of Prayer on the table by the nursery in the narthex.
