Bible Study Opportunities

Along with our regular Sunday morning Bible Class, Good Shepherd has a few other opportunities for Bible study. Pastor Mehl leads a study on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 am – 10:30 am in the church Fellowship Hall. Earl K. leads a class on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 am – 11:30 am in the Conference room of the church. There is a morning men’s Bible study that meets Tuesday mornings at 6:30 am. They currently meet at Sami’s restaurant in Joplin. There is also a Monday evening home study group that meets at Karen Perkin’s house at 6:30 pm. We would like to encourage people to get involved in one or more of these studies. It’s a great way to get connected to others in our church family while also learning about God’s word.

The Board of Christian Education wondered if there would be an interest in any other Bible study groups. What about a couples’ Bible study, a young adult group, a men’s morning Bible study in Carthage, etc. If you would be interested in any of these please contact Cindy E., or the church office 358-1325. It would be nice to get some new Bible study opportunities going at Good Shepherd to add to what is already being offered!

GSLC Friends

GSLC Friends is a small home Bible study group that meets once a week.  Our membership is diverse and you are welcome to join us.  We are currently studying “The Lutheran Difference”, a guide to how the Lutheran Church views a variety of subjects in today’s world.

We meet Monday night at the home of Karen P., gathering around 6:30 pm for a light dinner and/or snacks.  We begin our study around 7:00 pm.

Call Karen, or Gretchen O., for more information or on Messenger at GSLC Friends.

Christian Education News

The offering for the summer quarter combined with the VBS offering, which totaled $600.00 will be sent to Sharing God’s Mighty Word.  This organization sends free Bibles, Bible story books, and teaching materials to individuals and organizations who are struggling to connect people with the Gospel.  During VBS we also collected Bible story books which were donated locally  to the Carthage Family Literacy Council to put in their Little Free Library locations.  Thanks to all who donated to this project.

The Sunday School fall quarter begins on Sunday, September 3.  We will be studying how God works through prophets and kings.  During opening we will be working on music to sing in November to celebrate  Good Shepherd Lutheran Church’s 30 year anniversary.  Looking forward to seeing everyone in Sunday School as we study God’s word together.  If you would be interested in teaching a Sunday School class or would like to be on our substitute list, please contact Denise G.

Jr. Confirmation

Jr. Confirmation instruction will start in September.  Jr. Confirmands and their parents are asked to attend an organizational meeting on Sunday, September 17, during the Sunday School hour in the Conference room.

Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation will be provided to each new Confirmand, but each student will need to bring their own Bible to class.
