BEFORE BOTH SERVICES, on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, for about 15 minutes, Dr. Johns will introduce us to a variety of hymns and liturgies from our hymn book that we may not be familiar with. What a wonderful learning opportunity! We thank him for sharing this time with us.

JR CONFIRMATION CLASS Jr. Confirmation will start this Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be a parents’ meeting after both worship services this morning to answer questions and to explain this year’s class.

SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY DAY is today. The theme is Heroes Unmasked. A balloon launch will start things off during the Sunday School hour. Rally activities will continue after the late service with hot dogs, treats, and games for the kids. Be watching for Heroes. They could show up anywhere.

OVER-50 GOOD SHEPHERDS meet this Thursday at 6:00 for food, fellowship and games. You are welcome to join this informal group for an evening of fun and laughter.

PASTOR’S CLASS Pastor will have an information class Sunday afternoon, September 22, for anyone who is interested in joining Good Shepherd, who would like to know more about the Christian faith, or who would like to review the Lutheran Church’s teachings. The Class starts at 1:00 and goes all afternoon. Light refreshments are served. The class is informal and questions are encouraged. Please let Pastor know if you are planning to attend.

LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP The LYF is having a progressive dinner next Sunday evening, visiting several homes for different courses of the meal. They will end up at the church for dessert. Watch for details in next Sunday’s bulletin.

THRIVENT WORKSHOP Heart-to-Heart: As Your Parents Age Attend this free workshop offered by Financial Associate Austin Rice on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Pick up a flyer in the narthex for more information, and to see how to register. Please note: Dinner will be served at 6:30 instead of light refreshments, but we do need a RSVP.  This program will not only help you with your parents, but will help each of us when our time comes for our families to make these decisions. You do not have to be a Thrivent member to attend.

MONDAY EVENING WORSHIP If you are unable to attend church on Sunday morning, there is another worship opportunity at 6:30 pm on Monday evenings. This is also a service with Holy Communion.

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the nurse’s office after each service. You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace. We have had reports and words of thanks from folks being blessed by this outreach ministry.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers. They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

FLOWER CHART If you would like to place flowers at the altar for a special occasion or in memory of someone, please sign the flower chart hanging on the wall next to the water fountain in the hallway. Simply write your name, phone number, and occasion with the pen provided.

YOUTH GROUP PLANNING A planning meeting for the Youth Group is scheduled for this Sunday evening at 6:00. Parents are also invited to this meeting to decide on meeting times and activities for the rest of the year.

LWML meets this Tuesday evening at 6:30. All ladies of the congregation are invited to attend.

BOARD OF ED MEETING The Board of Ed. will meet today after the Sunday School hour.

CELEBRATION TODAY, 4:30 PM We are very thankful and consider ourselves very blessed to have had Pastor and Gerry here at Good Shepherd for the past 20 years. To show our appreciation and to celebrate this, and their 42 years in the ministry, we are having a cookout beginning at 4:30 this afternoon. Brats, hot dogs and hamburgers will be furnished, along with the drinks and condiments. The “sides” will be pot luck. There will also be cake and ice cream to celebrate Pastor’s birthday, which was on Friday. Hope to see everyone this afternoon!

TWO SUNDAY SERVICES We will be going back to our regular schedule of two worship services on Sunday mornings beginning next Sunday, Sept. 1. Early Service will be at 8:15 am, Sunday School and Bible Study at 9:30 am, and Late Service at 10:45 am. Communion will be celebrated next Sunday in the 8:15 am service.

PICTORIAL DIRECTORY Today we continue to take pictures for our new congregational pictorial directory. If you have not had your picture taken there are still some available times today, and a session has been added for tomorrow from 6:00-8:00 pm. See the sign ups on the table in the narthex. We thank Rick & Jo Collins for taking the photos, and for all the time they have spent on this project.

MARRIED We congratulate Adam S. and Michelle P. who were married yesterday in Kansas City. Adam is the son of Curt & Holly S. May the Lord bless this couple as they begin their life together as husband and wife. Adam & Michelle have made their home in St. Joseph, MO.

The choices are salad, chips, beans, or other. The brats, hamburgers and hot dogs will be furnished, along with the drinks, condiments, birthday cake and ice cream. Please make plans to attend and help us show Pastor & Gerry how much we appreciate them.
