Announcements — June 7, 2015

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Raymond S., rehabbing after a fall; Ruth H., Letitia L., Carol L., recovering at home; Paula B., April K., Sara T. undergoing  treatment for cancer.

† SUMMER WORSHIP  Starting today, for the summer months, we will have one worship service on Sunday and it will begin at 9:00 am.  Sunday School and Bible class will be at 10:30 am.

† INTENTIONAL INTERIM  Pastor Roger Mackie has accepted the call to be Good Shepherd’s Intentional Interim Pastor.  His installation date is set for July 26.

† LWML BRUNCH IN THE PARK  All ladies of the congregation are  invited to join the LWML ladies for their Brunch in the Park, this Saturday, June 13, beginning at 10:00 am.  It will be held in the Villages of Rollin’s Creek Clubhouse.  The neighborhood is just off of Fairview Avenue before you head into the country.  This fun and yummy event will take the place of the regular Tuesday evening meeting for the month of June.  Please RSVP by signing up in the Narthex!

† BAKED POTATO DINNER  The Lutheran Youth Fellowship (LYF) would like to thank everyone who supported this fundraising event.  All the generous donations were greatly appreciated!  Thank you for supporting our National Youth Gathering fundraising efforts!

† STEPHEN MINISTRY NEWS  Earl Kirn has recently been trained as    a Stephen Ministry leader.  He joins Janet Chambers who was previously  trained as a leader.  They both are capable and willing to teach and train    additional Stephen Ministers.  Tentatively, we are planning a class starting   in the fall.  After the service today, several members of the recently created Stephen Minister Board will be available in the conference room to provide additional information and to answer questions about becoming a Stephen Minister.  We encourage anyone interested in this ministry to stop in and learn more about this distinctively Christian caregiving Ministry.  Feel free to ask questions at any time of any of our current Board members, Earl K., Janet C., Clarice O., Brenda D., and Curt S.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER & VBS MEETING on Sunday, June 14, right after Sunday School.  Anyone interested in helping with VBS or Sunday School is encouraged to attend.

† MEAL DELIVERY  Our week to deliver meals for the Over-60 Center is June 15-19.  If you can help with this worthwhile project, please contact Betty E.

† THRIVENT MEETING  Our next Thrivent Chapter meeting will be Monday, June 8, at 6:30 pm, at First Lutheran Church in Neosho.  We will be discussing wrapping up the operation of the Chapter.  This will be our last Chapter meeting.  On July 1, the Chapter system will transition to the Thrivent Member Network.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

† CHOIR  A special choir, directed by Sue S., will be forming for the summer.  We would like to have as many voices as possible.  Practices will be on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm.  For questions, please contact Sue S. or Linda D.

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Sara T., diagnosed with cancer; Raymond S., rehabbing after a fall; Ruth H., Letitia L., Carol L., recovering at home; Paula B., April K., undergoing  treatment for cancer.

† CONGRATULATIONS  We rejoice with Nathan & Elizabeth D. at the birth of their baby girl, Lillian Grace.  She was born May 21, in Joplin, MO.  Lillian is the granddaughter of Gay Lynne D.

† CONGRATULATIONS  We rejoice with Wes S. & Morgan S. at the birth of their baby boy, Barrett Michael.  He was born May 22, in Joplin, MO.  Barrett is the grandson of Mike & Marla S. and the great-grandson of Linda S.

† BAKED POTATO DINNER  The Lutheran Youth Fellowship (LYF) is holding a Baked Potato Dinner today right after the late service.  There will be a potato bar with a variety of toppings, drinks, and desserts!  This will be a fundraising event for the National Youth Gathering that the group will be attending in the summer of 2016.  It would be great to have the whole congregation come together and enjoy lunch, fellowship and support our youth!

† LYF TRIP/LOCK-IN  As a welcome for the new confirmands, the LYF group will be going on a hiking trip and finishing up with a lock-in here at the church on Saturday, June 6 – Sunday, June 7.  The group will meet at the church Saturday morning at 8:30 am.  Bring a sack lunch to eat before the hike.  More details in the June newsletter.

† SPECIAL VOTERS’ MEETING  At the special Voters’ meeting on Sunday, May 17th, Voters unanimously approved a Call to Rev. Roger Mackie as the Intentional Interim Pastor based on the recommendation of the Board of Elders.  The Board of Elders will continue to work with the District President and Rev. Mackie regarding details of the Call.  We hope to hear from Rev. Mackie soon regarding his possible acceptance!

† ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

† BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the nurse’s office   after the service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

† JR CONFIRMATION  Eight of our young folks will publicly confess their faith this morning through the Rite of Confirmation during the late service.  They are:

† CONGRATULATIONS to Christopher Warner and Amber White who were united in marriage yesterday, here at Good Shepherd.  We rejoice with them and pray for God’s blessings as they begin their life together as husband and wife.  Amber is the daughter of Kathy S. and grand-daughter of Ruby S.

† WITH GRATITUDE  On this Memorial Day weekend, we remember with gratitude to God, the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the freedoms we enjoy today as Americans.

† SPECIAL VOTERS’ MEETING  At the special Voters’ meeting on Sunday, May 17th, Voters unanimously approved a Call to Rev. Roger Mackie as the Intentional Interim Pastor based on the recommendation of the Board of Elders.  The Board of Elders will continue to work with the District President and Rev. Mackie regarding details of the Call.  We hope to hear from Rev. Mackie soon regarding his possible acceptance!

† BAPTISM  We rejoice with Melissa and Jeremy R. at the baptism of their son, Grayson William R., and in the recognition of the baptism of his sister, Addison Cuquet, during the late service this morning.  Grayson was born March 5, 2015.  His sponsors are Jeff U. and Angel B.  Addison was born February 20, 2008 and her sponsors are Dale B. and Teresa W.  God be with this family as they grow in His grace and love.

† BAPTISMS  We rejoice with Korbin Mitchell F. and Kelton Odell A. at their baptisms this morning.  Korbin was born June 6, 2003, and Kelton September 25, 2007, and are the sons of  Donya.  Korbin’s sponsors are Paula C. and Justin M.  Kelton’s sponsors are Heath C. and Cheryl M.  We ask God to bless this family always with His love and grace.

† LYF MEETING this evening at the church at 6:00 pm.  All youth members and their parents are encouraged to attend so we can finalize plans for the Potato Dinner that is coming up.  They will also be making plans for the upcoming lock-in to welcome the new confirmands.

† SPECIAL VOTERS’ MEETING  This evening, at 7:00 pm, there will be a voters’ meeting to act on the Elders’ recommendation to issue a call to Pastor Roger Mackie to serve as our Intentional Interim Pastor.  Pastor Mackie’s home town is Rockford, MI.  More information will be shared at the meeting.

† GRIEF SUPPORT  Our Comfort in Sorrow (Grief Support Gathering) will meet this Thursday, May 21, at 5:00 pm.
