THRIVENT ELECTION DAY Ballots for the election of chapter officers for 2012 for the Southwest Missouri Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans are on the card table in the narthex.  Thrivent benefit and associate members (age 16 and older) are eligible to vote.  Please place your marked ballot in the basket provided.  Thank you.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped with the work day yesterday.  What you did to help is greatly appreciated.

MOTHER’S DAY OUT DEC. 11 If you want to go Christmas shopping without your children, the youth group will baby sit for you on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 11, from 1:00 to 5:00 here at the church.  There will be games, crafts and even snacks for the children while you are shopping to your heart’s content.  There is a sign up sheet in the narthex to let the youth group know how many to plan for.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS/BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING Next Sunday, Nov. 20, after the late service, there will be an important meeting for all the current teachers and board members.  Lunch will be provided.  Anyone interested in helping with the Christian education of our children by teaching or serving on the board are encouraged to attend.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the narthex after each service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.  We have had reports and words of thanks from folks being blessed by this outreach ministry.

TAPES OF THE SERVICE Audio tapes of the service are available after the 8:15 am service each Sunday.  They are located in the glassed-door cabinet in the narthex.  Tapes of the previous Sunday are also available.

GUEST PASTOR We extend our thanks to Pastor Lowell Rossow who will be leading us in worship again this morning while Pastor & Gerry are on vacation.  Pastor Rossow and Cynthia are retired and live in Stockton, MO.

ADULT BIBLE CLASS will be lead today by Darren Gallup.  Darren, a Lt. in the Joplin Police Department, will give a report of his experience on May 22, during the time of search and rescue, and the days that followed.  Thank you, Darren, for your willingness to share your experiences with us.

WE SALUTE YOU! Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is a holiday to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism and willingness to serve and sacrifice for our nation’s common good.  Thank you to all who served and are now serving our country.

IT’S A GSLC WORK DAY The Board of Trustees has announced a work day at the church for Saturday, Nov. 12.  Work will begin at 8:00 am and continue until ??? whenever.  There is both inside and outside work to be done, so we need everyone, ladies and men, to be willing to give of their time.  Outside work will consist of trimming, cutting and moving.  Inside work will be things like wiping down the pews, cleaning cabinets, etc.  Remember, more hands make for lighter work!

TRUSTEE MEETING TODAY The trustees will meet at 4:00 pm today before the Hobo Supper.

THE FALL PARTY, HAYRIDE and HOBO SUPPER is today. We will start making the stew around 5:00 pm. (To be ready to eat by 6:15.)  Bring some of your own precooked stew, cooked veggies or meat to toss in the big black pot on the open fire.  Please also bring a dessert to share.  The hayride will begin at 5:45 pm and will be held at Jack H.’s home, 2 miles west of the church on Hwy 96, house is on the right.  (Balloons on the mailbox will mark his lane.)  After we’ve enjoyed the hayride, we’ll head back to the church to partake of the now simmering hobo stew, and the children will begin to enjoy their Fall Party.  They are welcome to dress up in a friendly costume if they want.  There will be games to play & special treats handed out to all the children.

BAPTIZED We rejoice with Amber H. who’s daughter, Trinity Dawn, was baptized last Sunday during the worship service.  Trinity was born Oct. 20.  Her sponsors are Sonny & Gloria E.  Her maternal grandmother is Kathy M., and her maternal great-grandparents are Bud & Ruby S.

PASTOR AND GERRY ON VACATION IN ARIZONA Pastor & Gerry will be on vacation until Nov. 7.  Pastor will again be playing in the Senior Major League Baseball Tourney in AZ.  If you are in need of pastoral care, please contact the church office or call Earl K.

LADIES OF THE CONGREGATION You are all invited to attend the LWML Fall Zone Rally here at Good Shepherd this Sat.  Registration begins at 9:30 am, and the Rally will begin at 10:00 am.  We are the host society and invite you, our fellow Sisters in Christ, to join us.  The Shepherd’s Own and the Shepherd Strings will also take part in this day.  Pastor Gene Wyssmann, from Springfield, will be the guest speaker.  The Rally theme is We are all Christ’s Ambassadors.  Lunch will be served.

INGATHERING FOR RALLY The congregation is invited to join the LWML in donating items for the LWML Fall Rally Ingathering next Sat.  Each society of the zone has been asked to gather NEW, larger Christmas decorations (such as wreaths, nativity sets, centerpieces).  These items will to be given to the many Immanuel Lutheran families who were impacted by the Joplin tornado.  Your donation would help replace the many Christmas items that were lost or destroyed.

200th BIRTHDAY Today we remember the 200th birthday (Oct. 25) of C. F. W. Walther, a founding father and the first president of our Synod.  It was he who helped bring unity from early conflicts that plagued the new Lutheran colony to America and was instrumental in forming the new Synod that would become known as The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.  We sing one of the hymns Dr. Walther wrote in our service this morning.  Walther died May 7, 1887, in St. Louis.

CONGRATULATIONS to Amber H. who was blessed with the gift of a baby girl on Thursday morning, Oct.20.  Trinity Dawn weighed 6 lbs., 12 oz., and was 20 1/2 inches long.  Her maternal grandmother is Kathy M., and her maternal great-grandparents are Bud & Ruby S.  We pray for continued blessings for both mother and child.

FLU SHOTS FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN You can get flu shots here today.  Teri K., with McCune Brooks Hospital, will be offering the vaccine for $18.00; there is no charge if you are on Medicare.  Everyone will need to show identification and those on Medicare will need to have their card.  Teri will be available in the nurse’s office to administer the shots during the Sunday School hour and after the late service.

VOTERS’ MEETING Please plan to attend the voters’ meeting this evening at 7:00 pm.  Important business will include the election of officers and approving the 2012 budget.  Nominated are: Pres., Rick C.; Vice-Pres., Jim G.; Sec., no nominee; Treasurer, Rhonda N.; Elders, Greg G., Darren G.; Trustees, Mark B., Jeremy B., Justin M., Glenn M. (1 year term).  Nominations will also be taken from the floor.  Plus, there’s a contest!  Make your favorite homemade salsa recipe to share, and you could win a prize.  The chips and drinks will be furnished.
