THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR The program to read through the Bible in a year starts tomorrow with the Gospel of Matthew. If you would like to join in this adventure, there is a daily reading schedule on the round table in the narthex. The schedule will also be printed in the bulletin each week and located by the date on the calendar in the newsletter each month. The children can start with Matthew in their Action Bible tomorrow as well.

CAMPING & FISHING RETREAT FOR MEN & BOYS The dates for this year’s camping and fishing weekend are Oct. 12-14. It will be held again on the Dale B.’s property south of Lockwood. WOMEN TO WOMEN The LWML sponsored Women to Women Night Out will be Tuesday, Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m. at El Charro’s Mexican Restaurant, Carthage. The theme is Scarf it Up so bring or wear your favorite scarf. Scarves are a very popular fashion trend right now…join us and maybe we can show you a new idea or two on how to wear them. You don’t have to be a member of the LWML to enjoy this evening out with friends.

DOLLARS FOR MISSIONS The LWML thanks Pat S., a former GSLC member, who embroidered a queen size quilt and donated it to us to raise money for our mission work. Thanks to Karen M. who also helped with it and had it hand quilted. The quilt is on display downstairs in the fellowship hall. Your name along with a dollar donation will give you one (ten with a $5.00 donation) possibility of owning this beautiful quilt.

BABY BOY Timmy R. and Morgan are proud parents of a son, Brayten Glen. He was born September 24 and weighed seven pounds and six ounces. Grandparents are Kathy and Terry P. and the Great- grandmother is Katherine R.. We ask God’s blessings on them.

THE YOUTH GROUP meets next Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in the Youth room in the church basement. Plan to attend.

THE BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at noon next Sunday. Lunch will be served. You are welcome to attend.

LWML RALLY The October calendar in the newsletter shows the LWML Rally on Saturday the 13th. That is not correct. The LWML Rally is in November. Sorry for this confusion.

LWML SUNDAY Next Sunday is LWML Sunday when we remember the work of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

PASTORAL CONFERENCE Pastor will be attending the Western Missouri Pastoral Conference at Concordia, Missouri, October 8 and 9.

IDENTITY THEFT WORKSHOP The Thrivent Financial chapter will be hosting a Identity Theft Workshop at 6:30 p.m. on October 16 at Faith Lutheran Church, Carthage. There is no charge for the workshop and a door prize will be given away. You are invited to attend.

PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace. We have had reports and words of thanks from folks being blessed by this outreach ministry.

MODERN MUSIC DISCUSSION This evening at 7:00 p.m. the Board of Elders would like to meet with those interested in having more popular music as part of our worship music. They have been discussing this possibility and would like to have further input from the members of the congregation.

The other choice is a child’s version, so they too can join in reading through the Bible. Its cost is $20.00. CONSTITUTION WEEK September 17-23, commemorates the signing of the Constitution of the United States. Our constitution has endured longer than any other constitution in the world and has been used by many other countries as a model for drafting their own constitutions. Fly your flag with pride!

PARENTING FAMILIES: FROM ME TO WE This newly offered study, produced by The Lutheran Hour Ministries, is being led by Earl Kirn. It’s not too late to join the group. The class meets Wednesday evenings at 6:30.

Men: A group study based on The Courageous Bible Study, will be led by Darren G. This group will meet in the Conference Room.

SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY DAY TODAY The always fun and much anticipated balloon launch will be at 9:30 am and then the children will go to their new classrooms and meet their new teachers. Under the Big Top of God’s Love is the Rally Theme and after lunch there will be a circus parade of trikes, bikes, and wagons, plus a couple of circus acts. Then on to some really neat carnival games for a very fun filled afternoon. You won’t want to miss any of it!!

CONGREGATIONAL COOKOUT Plan to join us for a cookout, put on by the Youth Group, today after the late service. There are hamburgers, hot dogs, and brats hot off the grill. This is a fundraiser to help fund their trip to Texas next summer for the National Youth Gathering. For a suggested donation of $4.00 you will get your choice of two meats, chips, drink and dessert.

JR. CONFIRMATION CLASS for those in the 7th and 8th grades will begin Wednesday, September 12, at 6:30 pm. Pastor will meet with the parents today after both services to answer any questions and to give an overview of the class.

CONGRATULATIONS We rejoice with Dustin & Karleigh P. who were blessed with a baby boy Friday, Aug. 31. Boyd P. weighed 9 lbs. and was 22 inches long. His paternal grandparents are Chuck & Karen P. and his great-grandfather is Jack H. May the Lord bless & keep this new family.
