BAPTISM TODAY  We rejoice with Dustin & Karleigh P. who have brought their son Boyd Phillip P. to be baptized today during the late service.  Boyd’s sponsors are Wayne & Shelley W.  Boyd’s paternal grandparents are Chuck & Karen P. and his great-grandfather is Jack H.  We pray for blessings today and always for Boyd and his family.

PASTOR & GERRY ON VACATION  Pastor & Gerry will begin their vacation on Thursday of this week.  Please keep them in your prayers to have a fun and safe trip.  If you need assistance please call the church office, 358-1325, or Head Elder, Earl K.

REFORMATION SUNDAY  Next Sunday we will commemorate the posting of the 95 Thesis by Martin Luther which marked the beginning of the Reformation.  Our guest Pastor will be the Rev. Gary Asmus.  He is a retired pastor, and he and his wife, Lorraine, live in Joplin.

NEXT SUNDAY   Hayrides-Hobo Supper-Harvest Party  We will start “making” the stew around 5:00 pm.  Bring some of your own pre-cooked stew or cooked vegetables or meat to toss in the big black pot on the open fire.  Hayrides will start at 5:30 pm and will be held at Jack H.’s home, which is 2 miles west of the church on Hwy 96, house on the right.  By the time the hayrides are over, the stew should be hot and ready to dish up.  It is always so good!  Yep, it’s that time a’ year agin fer ever’one to put on yer Sunday worst, forget to shave n’ comb out yer hair, and come to church to chow down on some a’the best vittles (that’s hobo talk for food) yuv ever tasted!  Stew that’s a mite better’n Ma used to make!  Along with all this fun, the children will be having a Harvest Party.  They  can “dress up” in a “friendly” costume if they want to.  There will be games to play and special treats handed out. This is gonna be loads a’ fun, and ya don’t wanna miss it!  Bring yer friends,  too, ‘cause they’re a’ welcome!  See ya’ll here Sunday, October 28!

SIGN UP SHEET  There is a sign up sheet in the narthex, please sign if you can bring cheese & crackers or pie for the Hobo Supper/Harvest Party.

LWML FUNDRAISER-DOLLARS FOR MISSIONS  The LWML has a quilt that was donated it to us to raise money for our mission work. Your name along with a dollar donation will give you one (ten with a $5.00 donation) possibility of owning this beautiful quilt. Drawing for the quilt will be Nov. 6.

CD’S AND TAPES OF THE SERVICE  Audio tapes and CD’s of the service are available after the service each Sunday.  They are located in the glassed-door cabinet in the narthex.

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the narthex after the service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.  We have had reports and words of thanks from folks being blessed by this outreach ministry.

CONGRATULATIONS We congratulate and pray for God’s blessings on the marriage of Abbi S. and Lars D., who exchanged wedding vows yesterday evening here at Good Shepherd. Abbi is the daughter of Doug and Kelli S.

ELDERS’ MEETING The Elders will meet this Monday evening at 7:00.

FLU SHOTS FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN Today, Teri K., with McCune Brooks Hospital, will be offering the flu vaccine (shot or mist) for both adults and children. The cost for the shot is $15.00 and the mist is $22.00 for either adult or child. There will be no charge if you have Medicare, but you must have your card and everyone who receives a vaccine will need to show identification.

BABY BOY We congratulate Jeff & Crystal O. on the birth of a son, Tues., Oct. 9, 2012. Christopher Colby O. weighed 8 lbs, 5 oz. Marsha B. is the maternal grandmother and Ruth H. is the maternal great-grandmother. May the Lord bless and keep this family in his loving care.

CROSSLINES WORK DAY This Friday is the workday for Crosslines, beginning at 8:00 am.

DOLLARS FOR MISSIONS The LWML thanks Pat S., a former GSLC member, who embroidered a queen size quilt and donated it to us to raise money for our mission work. Thanks to Karen M. who also helped with it and had it hand quilted. The quilt is on display downstairs in the fellowship hall. Your name along with a dollar donation will give you one (ten with a $5.00 donation) possibility of owning this beautiful quilt.

IDENTITY THEFT WORKSHOP The Thrivent Financial chapter will be hosting an Identity Theft Workshop at 6:30 p.m. on October 16 at Faith Lutheran Church, Carthage. There is no charge for the workshop and a door prize will be given away. You are invited to attend.

LWML SUNDAY Today is LWML Sunday when we remember the work of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. We thank God for their dedication to the work of going into all the world with the Gospel message. Mites for Missions…we invite you to take part in this wonderful way to help with LWML mission funding. There are mite boxes available for you to use, please help yourself.

THE BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at noon today. Lunch will be served. You are welcome to attend.

THE YOUTH GROUP meets this evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Youth room in the church basement. Plan to attend.

CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING will be held this evening at 7:00 p.m. All elected officers and Board chairman are on the church council.

PASTORAL CONFERENCE Pastor will be attending the Western Missouri Pastoral Conference at Concordia, Missouri, October 8 and 9.

SOFTBALL The co-ed team will play their last game of the season Monday evening at 6:30.

WOMEN TO WOMEN The LWML sponsored Women to Women Night Out will be this Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at El Charro’s Mexican Restaurant, Carthage. The theme is Scarf it Up so bring or wear your favorite scarf. Scarves are a very popular fashion trend right now…join us and maybe we can show you a new idea or two on how to wear them. You don’t have to be a member of the LWML to enjoy this evening out with friends.

CAMPING & FISHING RETREAT FOR MEN & BOYS The dates for this year’s camping and fishing weekend are Oct. 12-14. It will be held again on the Dale Beshears property south of Lockwood.
