Announcements — August 7, 2016

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Helen, Clarice O’s daughter, recovering from surgery; Gary D., Greg D.’s brother, after unsuccessful cancer surgery; Tom & Linda D., suffering back pain and other health issues; Gary B., suffering health issues; Janice H., recovering from knee surgery at home; Kathy P., suffering health issues; Paula B., Sara P., undergoing treatment for cancer.

† SPECIAL VOTERS’ MEETING  A Voters’ Meeting has been scheduled for August 14 at 7:00 pm to review the pastoral candidates submitted by the Call committee.  A brief summary of the candidates will be provided prior to the meeting with the intent of potentially voting to issue a Call to one of the candidates.

† TEENS REACHING TEENS  Rachel E. will be leading a free training session – Teens Reaching Teens in the Digital Age –  for the youth in our congregation and churches in the surrounding area on Saturday, August 20.   There is an insert in the bulletin today with more information.

† STEPHEN MINISTRY  As Earl has reported in the July newsletter, Good Shepherd will be hosting our second Stephen Ministry class this fall.  This is open to all GSLC members and any other people that might be interested in this caregiving ministry.  After the service on August 14, several Stephen Ministers will be available in the conference room to provide additional information and to answer questions about becoming a Stephen Minister. We encourage anyone interested in this ministry to stop in and learn more about this distinctively Christian caregiving ministry.

† MEAL DELIVERY  Monday, August 15, through Friday, August 19, is Good Shepherd’s week to deliver meals for the Over-60 Center.  If you can help with this worthwhile project, please contact Betty E.

† LUTHERAN NIGHT AT THE BALLGAME  Friday, August 12, is Lutheran Night with the Springfield Cardinals.  The game starts at 7:10 pm and the ticket price is $9.00, which includes a Springfield Cardinals cap and post-game fireworks.  If you would like to attend, there is a sign-up sheet in the narthex.  The ticket money should to be given to Jim Garoutte no later than August 7.

† BACK TO TWO SERVICES  Starting Sunday, September 4, we will return to our regular two services.  Worship services will be at 8:15 and 10:45 am with Sunday School and Adult Bible Class at 9:30 am.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY DAY has been set for Sunday, August 28. There will be a balloon launch and a special activities during Sunday School.  That evening, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, there will be a Rally Day Slumber Party with movies, games, and snacks.  We won’t actually sleep over (it’s a school night) but feel free to come in your PJ’s if you’d like.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

† ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service,   assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a  transistor radio and you can control the volume.

† VOTERS’ MEETING  The regular Voters’ Meeting will be held today at  7:00 pm in the fellowship hall.

† CAVE QUEST VBS  Thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s VBS possible!  It takes a lot of help to put such a special event together and we really appreciate all the hard work.  What a wonderful and enjoyable week it was learning about following JESUS, the light of the world.

† VBS EXCESS FOOD  There is a freewill offering basket in the narthex and  some leftover VBS food items.  Please come and see if there is anything you might want/need.

† LCMS NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING  Eight youth members and two adult leaders of our congregation recently returned from the LCMS National Youth Gathering in New Orleans.  They would like to say thank you to GSLC for all the support in helping with their fundraising and in praying for them while they were enjoying this amazing experience together.  The group would like to share with the congregation a little of what occurred during this week long trip.  They will give a presentation today during the Adult Bible Class.  Please come join them to hear them tell about their experience!

† SPECIAL VOTERS’ MEETING  At a special Voters’ Meeting last Sunday, following the service, the extension of Pastor Mackie’s Intentional Interim Pastor contract was accepted.

† VBS KICK-OFF PARTY  Thanks to Nicole B. and her family for organizing and cooking for a wonderful and well attended VBS kick-off party last Sunday evening!

† CAVE QUEST VBS BEGINS TONIGHT  Vacation Bible School starts this evening, from 6:00– 8:00 pm, with a light dinner at 5:30 pm.  The offerings from VBS this year will go to the Ronald McDonald House in Joplin.  There is a list of items needed on the round table in the narthex.  This year, there will be a study offered for the adults that will coincide with what the children are learning each evening.  Please come and join us in learning about following JESUS, the light of the world.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL OFFERING $1000 GOAL REACHED  For the first couple of quarters in 2016, both the adult and the children’s Sunday School offerings were being collected to help Children’s Haven in Joplin.  If you are monitoring our progress by watching our bulletin board downstairs you will notice that we reached our $1000 goal.  All 10 gingerbread kids are up! Thanks so much for your support of this project!
