Announcements — September 4, 2016

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Esther M., at Mercy Joplin after a fall; Carlin P., recovering from shoulder surgery; Kathy P., suffering health issues; Gary D., Sara P., undergoing treatment for cancer.

† BACK TO TWO SERVICES  Today we return to our regular two services.  Worship services are at 8:15 and 10:45 am with Sunday School and Adult Bible Class at 9:30 am.

† WEDNESDAY MORNING SCRIPTURE STUDY will not meet this Wednesday, September 7.  Class will resume Wednesday, September 14.

† CALL APPROVED  After reviewing the pastoral candidates submitted by the Call Committee at the Special Voters’ Meeting held Sunday, Aug. 14, it was voted to issue a Call to Reverend Derek Roberts.

† LWML will meet this Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm.

† OVER-50 GOOD SHEPHERDS will meet this Thursday evening at 6:00 pm.

† MEAL DELIVERY  Thank you to all those who helped with the Over 60 Center meal delivery.  What a great way to help support our local community!  The Area Agency on Aging will be hosting a volunteer appreciation night for all those who helped.  The event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Carthage Senior Center.  There will be pizza and prizes.  Please RSVP no later than Sept. 10 to (417)358-4741.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL OFFERING  Starting in September and going through the end of the year, Sunday School offerings, both the adult and the children’s, are being designated to Immanuel Lutheran’s Comfort Dog Team’s fund for medical expenses.  Our previous goal for Children’s Haven was $1,000 and we achieved that goal.  Lets see if we can exceed that amount this time!  Thanks so much for your support of this project.

† Jr. Confirmation instruction will start in September.  Jr. Confirmands and their parents are asked to attend an organizational meeting next Sunday, September 11, in the conference room.  Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation will be provided to each new Confirmand, but each student will need to bring their own Bible to class.

† SHEPHERD’S OWN  After a brief summer hiatus, The Shepherd’s Own   will resume weekly rehearsals beginning on Wednesday, September 14. Rehearsals are held 6:30-7:30 pm. If you enjoy singing praises to the Lord in four-part harmony, and fellowship with a fun group of sinner-saints, now would be a good time to join the group – no audition required!

† GSLC BAND will resume their regular practices on Wednesday, Sept. 7,  at 5:30 – 6:30 pm.

† Nominating Committee  If you would be willing to serve on the nominating committee this fall, please contact Dave Wacker. The nominating committee is responsible for providing a slate of willing individuals to serve in elected positions of our Lord’s church here at Good Shepherd.

† Organist Needed  If you or someone you know can play the piano or organ and would be willing to play for church one Sunday per month, please let Pastor or Greg Golden know.  We are looking to add another player to the organist roster!

† SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY DAY  Today, to kick off our new Sunday School year, there will be a balloon launch and special activities during Sunday School.  This evening, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, there will be a Rally Day Slumber Party with movies, games, and snacks.  We won’t actually sleep over (it’s a school night) but feel free to come in your PJ’s if you’d like.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

† ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service,   assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a  transistor radio and you can control the volume.

† BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the nurse’s office after the       service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure    readings.

† SPECIAL VOTERS’ MEETING  This evening, at 7:00 pm, there is a Special Voters’ Meeting to review the pastoral candidates submitted by the Call Committee with the intent of potentially voting to issue a Call to one of the candidates.  A brief summary of the candidates is available in the narthex on the round table.

† TEENS REACHING TEENS  Rachel E. will be leading a free training session – Teens Reaching Teens in the Digital Age –  for the youth in our congregation and churches in the surrounding area this Saturday, August 20 from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm.  Lunch will be provided.

† STEPHEN MINISTRY  As Earl has reported in the July newsletter, Good Shepherd will be hosting our second Stephen Ministry class this fall.  This is open to all GSLC members and any other people that might be interested in this care giving ministry.  After the service today several Stephen Ministers will be available in the conference room to provide  additional information and to answer questions about becoming a Stephen Minister.  We encourage anyone interested in this ministry to stop in and learn more about this distinctively Christian care giving ministry.

† MEAL DELIVERY  GSLC’s week to deliver meals for the Over-60 Center starts this Monday, August 15, and goes through Friday, August 19.  If you can help with this worthwhile project, please contact Betty E.

† Andrew Lyle Wydeck Jr of Campbell Hill, IL, passed away Sunday, August 7, at the VA Medical Center in Marion, IL.  For the past 10 years, Lyle & Sarah had traveled the U.S. working with Laborers for Christ on church construction projects.  He was involved with several projects connected with Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 10 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill, at 10:00 am.
