† CONGRATULATIONS  We rejoice with Pastor & Megan Mehl at the birth of their baby boy, Elias Robert Mehl.  Elias was born July 30 in Joplin, MO.

† VBS PICTURES  Be sure to take a look at the fun pictures from this year’s VBS that are hung on the bulletin board in the narthex.  If you   see any you would like to have, please feel free to take them.

† THE WEDNESDAY MORNING SCRIPTURE STUDY will not meet the next   two Wednesdays, August 9 and 16, while Earl is on vacation.  Class will resume on Wednesday, August 23.

† MEAL DELIVERY  Good Shepherd’s week to deliver meals for the Over-60 Center is the week of August 14-18.  If you can help with this   worthwhile project, please contact Betty E.

† NEW MARTIN LUTHER MOVIE  A Joplin screening has been booked for the new Luther movie which – as you may be aware – was produced in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation.  (More information about this movie is accessible at LCMS.org.) This   movie, Martin Luther: The Idea That Changed The World, is scheduled   to be shown at the Joplin Northstar Stadium 14 theater on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 7:30 pm.  A minimum of 100 reservations will need to be made by September 20th in order for the screening to take place.  The tickets are $9 for all audience members.  This screening is being cohosted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Carthage and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Joplin.  Here is a shortcut to the website that was set up to provide moviegoers with information about the movie and a mechanism to reserve tickets specifically for the Joplin screening:                          http://joplin.newluthermovie.com/.

† BACK TO TWO SERVICES  Starting Sunday, September 10, we will return to our regular two services.  Worship services will be at 8:15 and 10:45 am with Sunday School and Adult Bible Class at 9:30 am.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY DAY has been set for Sunday, August 27.  There will be a balloon launch at the beginning of the Sunday School hour.  After the Sunday School hour join us for a light lunch and some fun games based on the Ten Commandments that we spent the summer learning about.  Come enjoy some fun fellowship time with your Sunday School friends.

† DID YOU KNOW that audio recordings of the service are made most Sundays for the sick or the shut-ins?  Disks containing the Sunday service are available.  If you would like a copy see Rick C. or check with the church office.  Copies of Pastor Mehl’s sermon are available on the table by the nursery in the narthex.

† NURSERY/CRY ROOM  Should your child become distressed or distract  others during the service, a furnished nursery/cry room is located in the narthex for your use.  Please ask one of the ushers if you need directions.

† BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the nurse’s office after the service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

† ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having difficulty hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

† VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL  Thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s VBS possible!  It takes a lot of help to put such a special event together and we really appreciate all the hard work.  A big thank you to Nicole B., Diana B., and Earl K. for all the time put in organizing, decorating, and much more!  What a wonderful and enjoyable week it was learning that through JESUS, the victory is won.

† OFFERINGS FROM VBS & SUNDAY SCHOOL  The offering from VBS, which will be combined with the summer quarter Sunday School offering, will be going to an organization called Sharing God’s Mighty Word.  This organization sends free Bibles, Bible story books, and teaching materials to individuals and organizations who are struggling to connect people with the Gospel.  During VBS we also collected Bible  story books to donate locally to the Carthage Family Literacy Council to put in their Little Free Library locations.

CONGRATULATIONS We rejoice with Eric & Amy P. at the birth of their baby girl, Allie Elizabeth P. Allie was born July 17 in Joplin, MO.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL starts tonight and will go through Thursday, July 27. It runs from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, with a light dinner at 5:30 pm each evening. Come and join us in learning and teaching that in Jesus, the victory is won! Next Sunday, at the beginning of the service, the children will be sharing with us some of the songs they learned throughout the week.

VBS KICK-OFF PARTY Thanks so much to Nicole and Chad B. for organizing and providing the delicious pulled pork for our annual VBS kick-off party. It was a well attended, fun filled event!

† RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS  This morning, during the service, Good Shepherd will be receiving new members:  Kelby, Petra, Kellen & Grayden M.; Alex & Hannah R.; and Bill W. So thankful to have them as a part of our church family.

† VBS REGISTRATION  Vacation Bible School will be held July 23 – 27, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, with a light dinner at 5:30 pm each evening.  There are registration forms in the narthex.  Please, make sure to fill out a registration form if you are participating or helping and include your t-shirt size so Nicole can order the shirts.  You can use one sheet for  multiple members in a family if you want, but be sure to include all their shirt sizes.

† VBS KICK-OFF PARTY  Come out to the Carthage Municipal Park today for this year’s VBS kick-off!  The fun will start at 4:00 pm with rides at Kiddie Land.  There will be a picnic at 5:00 pm.  Pulled pork sandwiches will be provided.  Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share.  The festivities will conclude with swimming at the Carthage Municipal Pool from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

† HELP PLEASE  GSLC collects food items for Crosslines in Carthage monthly. There is a large collection can upstairs and a shopping cart downstairs in which people place their items for donation.  Until now, Nan Borg has been the one taking care of getting these items delivered to Crosslines.  During this time while she is struggling with her shoulder injury, it would be great if others would step in to help with this.     Crosslines address is 600 East 6th Street in Carthage and they are open Tuesday – Thursday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
