† CONGRATULATIONS  We rejoice with Alex and Hannah R. at the birth of their baby girl, Ila Elaine R.  Ila was born September 18 in Joplin, MO.

† NEW MARTIN LUTHER MOVIE  The movie, Martin Luther: The Idea That Changed The World, will be shown at the Joplin Northstar Stadium 14 theater on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 7:30 pm.  The tickets are $9 for all audience members.  This screening is being cohosted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Carthage and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Joplin.  You can still purchase tickets if you    haven’t already.  Here is a shortcut to  the website that was set up to provide moviegoers with information about the movie and a mechanism to reserve tickets specifically for the Joplin screening: http://joplin.newluthermovie.com/.

† 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION  Don & Carol L. were married on Oct. 20, 1967.  Family and friends will celebrate this milestone next Sunday, Oct. 1, from 1:30 – 3:00 pm at Good Shepherd.  They would like to extend an invitation  to the congregation.  Please RSVP to Elizabeth R. or elizabetharogers1@gmail.com.  No gifts, just good wishes please.

† THE ANNUAL MEN’S FISHING/CAMPOUT is October 6 – 7 at Dale’s Fish’n Hole.  There are maps available in the narthex.  Please add your name to the provided sign up sheet if you plan to attend.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL PLANNING MEETING  There will be a meeting on Sunday,    October 8, after the late service to discuss the current Sunday School quarter and to start planning for this year’s Christmas Program.  Anyone currently helping with Sunday School or interested in helping out is encouraged to attend.

† MEN’S MORNING BIBLE STUDY  The Tuesday morning Men’s Bible Study just finished their study of 2 Peter.  We will be beginning the book of Jude.  If you would like to join us in the mornings before you start your day, now would be a good time.  You can get more information by contacting the church office, 358-1325.

† REFORMATION CELEBRATION  Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin is hosting   an afternoon of fellowship and fun to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the     Reformation.  It will be a family-oriented afternoon with activities for everyone.  The event will be Saturday, October 7th from 3-7.  Events include bounce houses and games for the children.  There will be a Martin and Kate Luther Look-a-like Contest.  They will host a wiener dog race and runway show with prizes.  Later in the evening, there will be a Gospel band for a sing-a-long.  They are catering an authentic German meal.  There will also be a cash bar available in a separate tent.  The games are free.  There will be a charge for the meal and drinks.  Please come for a day of fellowship and fun.  Please contact Betty Lingenfelter of Immanuel Lutheran Church at 417-622-3118 with any questions.

† BAPTISM  We rejoice with Eric and Amy P. at the baptism of their daughter, Allie Elizabeth P., during the 10:45 am service this morning.  Allie was born July 17, 2017.  Her sponsors are Ryan and Abby K.  God be with this family as they grow in His grace and love.

At this point only 42 tickets have been reserved.  The tickets are $9 for all      audience members.  This screening is being cohosted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Carthage and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Joplin.  Here is a shortcut to  the website that was set up to provide moviegoers with information about the movie and a mechanism to reserve tickets specifically for the Joplin screening: http://joplin.newluthermovie.com/.  If you are interested in seeing this movie, please go ahead and make your reservations soon so that we will be able to take advantage of this opportunity.  The card used to reserve your tickets will not be charged if the 100 ticket reservation minimum is not met.

† JR CONFIRMATION  Jr. Confirmation instruction will start in September. Jr. Confirmands and their parents are asked to attend an organizational meeting today during the Sunday School hour in the Conference room.  Luther’s Small  Catechism with Explanation will be provided to each new Confirmand, but each student will need to bring their own Bible to class.

† BACK TO TWO SERVICES  As of today we are back to our regular two services.  Worship services will be at 8:15 and 10:45 am with Sunday School and Adult Bible Class at 9:30 am.  Holy Communion will alternate between the two services starting with Holy Communion in the 8:15 am  service today .

† BRUNCH WITH MEGAN & ELIAS  This Saturday, Sept. 16, at 10:00 am, there will be a Brunch for Megan & Elias Mehl in the Fellowship Hall at the church.  The brunch is being hosted by LWML and all ladies of the congregation are invited to come and enjoy some food and “visiting time” with Megan & Elias.

† GSLC FRIENDS is a small home Bible study group that meets once a week.  Our membership is diverse and you are welcome to join us.  We are currently studying “The Lutheran Difference”, a guide to how the Lutheran Church views a variety of subjects in today’s world.  We meet Monday night at the home of Karen Perkins, gathering around 6:30 pm for a light dinner and/or snacks.  We begin our study around 7:00 pm.
