Announcements — August 11, 2019

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Allie P, recovering after a fall; Katherine R., recovering from surgery for a broken hip; Sue V., at St. Luke’s  receiving rehab after a broken hip; Jack H., at St. Luke’s dealing with multiple health issues; Kathy P., suffering health issues; Stephen Ministry and their care receivers.

† SHEPHERD’S STRINGS  The Shepherd’s Strings have started meeting on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am at the church.  If you would be interested in joining them, please come on Tuesdays and check it out.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY DAY  On Sunday, August 25, GSLC will be        celebrating Rally Day for the start of the new Sunday School year.  There will be a Sunday School celebration which will include a joint trivia game for both the adults and the kids during the Sunday School hour.  Following Sunday School there will be a church potluck with grilled hot dogs &    hamburgers and drinks provided.  Everyone is invited, just bring a dessert or side to share.

† MEAL DELIVERY  Good Shepherd’s week to deliver meals for the Over-60 Center is this week, August 12 – 16.  If you can help with this worthwhile project, please contact Betty E

† ALTAR GUILD  The Altar Guild could use more people to assist them with Sunday morning Communion setup.  If this is something that you would be able to help out with, please mention it to Janet Chambers or contact the church office, 358-1325.  Many hands make light work. 

† NEWBORNS IN NEED DONATION  The Christian Ed Committee wanted to share with the congregation the tally of all the items GSLC donated to Newborns in Need.  In total, there were 27 packages of wipes, 4 cans of formula, 2 containers of cereal, 4 pacifiers, 6 bottles, and 907 diapers.  Wow, It is wonderful to help out our local community.  Thanks for the help with this project.

† LUTHERAN STUDY BIBLES  The Christian Ed Committee has heard some  interest from a few of our Sunday School teachers and others interested in purchasing Lutheran Study Bibles.  To help with the cost of the shipping and get a small discount, GSLC has ordered some Lutheran Study Bibles that we will be offering to the congregation for purchase.  The cost of these Bibles will be $40.00.  If you are interested in purchasing a Bible, please contact the church office, 358-1325.

† SUMMER QUARTER OFFERINGS  The offerings from Adult Bible class/Sunday School and VBS for the summer quarter will be going to the Jasper County branch of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).  CASA is a national organization that places individuals with foster children to guide and support them through the process of finding a permanent home.  This is a joint community support effort with Immanuel Lutheran Church in  Joplin.

† NURSERY/CRY ROOM  Should your child become distressed or distract others during the service, a furnished nursery/cry room is located in the narthex for your use.  Please ask one of the ushers if you need directions.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

† ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ MEETING  Today, following the Sunday School hour, there will be a teachers’ meeting to get prepared for the Fall quarter.  The meeting will address the new curriculum which we will be starting in September.  All current Sunday School teachers and helpers and anyone interested in teaching or helping are encouraged to attend this meeting.

† TIM & HOPE MEHL are here this morning and will be speaking during   the Bible Class hour.  They would like to talk to us about their first year in Taiwan.  They will be heading to Taiwan again early in the Fall for a second year of Missionary work.

† ORGANIST  A warm welcome to one of our new members, Nathan      Pennington, who is playing the music for our service this morning.        Thank you Nathan.

† VBS PRESENTATION  At the beginning of the service this morning the  VBS kids will give the congregation a taste of all the wonderful things   they learned this week at VBS. 

† VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL  Thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s VBS possible!  It takes a lot of help to put such a special event       together and we really appreciate all the hard work.  A big thank you to Nicole B. and Diana B. for all the time put in organizing, decorating, and much more!  This year’s VBS offering was $382.87 and it will be going to the newly formed Jasper County branch of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and the diapers and wipes collected will be going to Newborns in Need!  What a wonderful and enjoyable week it was learning about JESUS’ MIRACULOUS MISSION TO SAVE THE WORLD!

† VOTERS’ MEETING  The regular quarterly voters’ meeting will be held today, right after church, during the Sunday School hour.  The youth will be handling Sunday School for the kids so that everyone who would like to can attend the meeting.  After the meeting there will be a lunch with fried chicken provided by the church.

† VBS DONATIONS  Thanks to everyone who took post-it notes from the board and purchased items for VBS.  Every note placed on the board was taken, how awesome.  If you haven’t returned your item please do so as soon as possible so that we know we have everything we need for the week!   The congregation’s support of VBS is extremely appreciated!!!

† VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL starts tonight and will go through Thursday, July 25.  It runs from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, with a light dinner served at 5:30 pm each evening.  Come and join us in learning and teaching about Jesus’   Miraculous Mission of saving the world!  Next Sunday, at the beginning    of the service, the children will be sharing with us some of the songs they learned throughout the week.

† STEPHEN MINISTRY will meet this Tuesday evening at 5:30 pm in the Conference room.

† BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the nurse’s office after the  service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.
