Announcements — December 29, 2019

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Wynette Q., recovering from gallbladder surgery;  Jack H., at St. Luke’s dealing with multiple health issues; Katherine R., recovering from a broken hip; Sue V., at  St. Luke’s receiving rehab after a broken hip; Kathy P., suffering health issues; Stephen Ministry and their care receivers.

† THANK YOU Pastor Schnackenberg for handling both the Worship Service and Bible Class while Pastor Mehl is away!

† LWML BUNCO PARTY  All adult women are invited to attend the Bunco Party hosted by LWML on Sunday, January 5, at 3:00 pm! (This will take the place of the annual Christmas party this year.)  Plan to have a fun afternoon playing Bunco (a very easy-to-learn dice game) with the great women of Good Shepherd!  There will be snacks and prizes!  The Secret Sister reveal will also be that afternoon.

† THURSDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY will not meet Thursday, January 2. Class will resume on January 9. 

† GSLC FRIENDS BIBLE STUDY will not meet December 30.  The group will resume meeting on Monday, January 6, with an Epiphany party.

† OFFERING ENVELOPES  The 2020 offering envelopes are on the round  table in the narthex.  Please remember to discard your 2019 envelopes and use only the 2020 envelopes beginning on Sunday, January 5.  If you do not see your name and want envelopes, please contact the church office.  Likewise, if you prefer not to use them and see your name, simply write NO on the label.

† ELECTED CHURCH OFFICERS  The elected church officers for 2020 will be installed on Sunday, January 5.

† FLOWER CHART, 2020  If you would like to place flowers at the altar for a special occasion or in memory of someone, please sign the flower chart hanging on the wall next to the water fountain in the hallway.  Simply write your name, phone number, and occasion with the pen provided.

† PORTALS OF PRAYER  The new Portals of Prayer for the winter are on the table by the nursery in the narthex.

† LWML QUARTERLIES  The LWML Winter Quarterlies are on the table by the nursery in the narthex.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

† BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the nurse’s office after the   service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

† ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

7:00 pm Tuesday night, Christmas Eve Candlelight Service with Holy Communion.

† ANGEL TREE  A big Thank you to everyone who took a tag from the tree.  Our congregation sent a very generous number of items to the Salvation Army last week and they were extremely appreciative to get them!  Thanks for your support of this project!

† STORIES OF THE SAVIOR  Please join us this evening for the Sunday School Christmas Program at 7:00 pm.  Come and learn from our research teams how so many people, both from the Old Testament and the New Testament, have “Stories of the Savior”!  The students have worked hard and are very excited to share the story of Jesus’ birth with their church family!  There will be refreshments for everyone to enjoy following the program.  *Today we will have one last rehearsal during Sunday School and then celebrate with cupcakes!

† BELL RINGING  Our LWML and the Youth Group will be combining to ring bells for the Salvation Army on Wed., December 18, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, which allows plenty of time to get to the Advent service.  They will be at the north door of Walmart.  Please come out to support the Salvation    Army as well as our LWML and the Youth; in fact they would love for you to join them in singing Christmas carols.

Announcements — December 8, 2019

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Walter R., recovering from surgery on his Achilles tendon; Jack H., at St. Luke’s dealing with multiple health issues; Katherine R., recovering from a broken hip; Sue V., at  St. Luke’s receiving rehab after a broken hip; Kathy P., suffering health issues; Stephen Ministry and their care receivers.

† CONSTITUTION CHANGES  There will be a very brief Voters’ Meeting held right after the service today, to get approval on some changes that need to be made to the GSLC Constitution.

† TRAINS OPEN HOUSE  Saturday, December 14, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Doug & Peggy S. will be hosting an open house featuring Christmas trains!  It will be at their home in Carthage.  All kids are invited, “big kids” too.  Come enjoy some refreshments and Christmas fun! 

† ANGEL TREE  The angel tree items were due to be back and under the tree by today.  If you haven’t put yours under the tree yet, please bring them to the church this week by Tuesday so they can be picked up by the Salvation Army.  Remember they should be unwrapped with the tag attached.  Thanks for your support of this project.

† STORIES OF THE SAVIOR  The Sunday School Christmas program is     scheduled for Sunday, December 15, at 7:00 pm.  Today we will have a longer rehearsal following the service and end with lunch.  December 15 we will have a dress rehearsal during the Sunday School hour, followed by a cupcake celebration.  We would really appreciate it if we could have as many students here at rehearsals as much as possible because it will make things run smoother.  Please encourage your children to get excited about this special opportunity to tell the story of Jesus’ birth to our church     family!

† ADVENT DEVOTIONS  Daily Devotionals for December can be found on the table outside the nursery along with Portals of Prayer.  You will also find a half-sheet order of service to use along with your daily devotional that includes some prayers on the back.   

† POINSETTIAS  If you would like to purchase a poinsettia(s) to help adorn the sanctuary at Christmas, please use the sign-up sheet on the table        in the narthex and prepay Diana Endicott.  The cost is $8.00 each.  Please see Diana with any questions.

† NURSERY/CRY ROOM  Should your child become distressed or distract others during the service, a furnished nursery/cry room is located in the narthex for your use.  Please ask one of the ushers if you need directions.
