Announcements — April 27, 2014

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Savanna J., undergoing tests; Mary C., Mike D., Tim S., and Andrea H. (Joann W.’s mother), undergoing treatment for cancer.

† OUR THANKS to everyone who helped with the Easter Services, breakfast and special activities for our children.  You are greatly appreciated.

† EASTER EGGS  The Lutheran Youth Fellowship would like to thank the congregation for all the wonderful donations made for the Easter egg hunt.  The kids had a great time and enjoyed the treats!

† VOTERS’ MEETING  There will be a voters’ meeting next Sunday,    May 4, at 7:00 pm.

† THE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION APPRECIATION DINNER is tonight at 5:00 pm.  This event is for anyone and everyone who has ever been involved as a teacher, helper, leader, and support service provider with Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Youth Group and Christian Education.  The evening will include a black light puppet show, a wonderful dinner, and guest speaker, Jason Glaskey, DCE at Immanuel Lutheran in Joplin.  Children are especially invited to attend. This event is sponsored by a generous individual interested in Christian education.

† JR CONFIRMATION AND MIDWEEK CLASSES will start their summer break just a little bit early this year because Pastor will be heading to Germany.  These classes will only meet for the next two Wednesdays, April 30 and May 7.

† LWML is collecting baby items as an in-gathering for the Spring Zone Rally on May 4.  Donated items will be taken to the Rally in Aurora and then be given to the Pregnancy Resource Center.  A basket is in the narthex if you’d like to help.  Thank you!

† NEW BIBLE STUDY GROUP   There is a new Scripture Study Group meeting on Wednesday mornings at 10:30.  It is focused on the issues that go along with getting older.  Earl Kirn is leading this study and encourages anyone interested in this topic to come and join the group.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF)  The LYF will meet here at the church next Sunday, May 4, at 6:00 pm.

† NURSERY ATTENDANT  We are in need of a Nursery Attendant for the 10:45 worship service on Sunday mornings.  The Attendant must be 18 years or older, be able to lift children, must pass a background check, care for the children in the nursery starting at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings, keep the Nursery clean and sanitized, and maintain appropriate and safe toys.  The position pays $20.00 per Sunday.  You may pick up a complete position description in the church office.  If you are interested, please leave a brief resume with the church office.  Please do so ASAP.  The Board of Elders will make the final decision as to whom will be hired.

†      HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE Wednesday Evening—Classes return to previous time schedules except for midweek class which will not resume until April 23.

Maundy Thursday Communion Service—11:00 am., 7:00 pm.

Good Friday Tenebrae Service—11:00 am., 7:00 pm.

Holy Saturday Prayer Vigil—12:00 pm. – 12:00 am.

Easter Early Communion Service—7:30 am.

Easter Breakfast—8:30 am.

Easter Egg Hunt—9:30 am.

Easter Worship Service with Communion—10:45 am.

†      EASTER EGG HUNT  Once again the Board of Education (with a lot of help from our Lutheran Youth Fellowship) is sponsoring the annual Easter Egg Hunt.  The excitement begins right after the breakfast Easter Sunday, so bring your own basket and get ready for some fun.

†     THURSDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY will not meet this week due to the 11:00 am Maundy Thursday Service.

†     CHURCH COUNCIL  Due to all the activities around Easter, the Church Council will not meet on the normal second Sunday in April.  Instead the meeting has been scheduled for Monday, April 21, at 7:00 pm.

†      LOVE OFFERING  At the Easter Breakfast the LWML will not be asking for a free will offering, but we will be taking up a love offering which will go to Gretchen and Ethan N. to help with their mission trip to Mexico.

†      EASTER LILIES  If you would like to purchase one or more lilies to help adorn our sanctuary on Easter, please use the sign up sheet in the narthex.  The cost is $8.00 each.  Or if you would like to help with the Easter flower decorations, but not purchase a lily, you can make a monetary contribution toward that instead.  Please pay Diana Endicott.

†     THE LWML SPRING RALLY will be held Sunday, May 4, in Aurora, MO.  If you would like to go as a member or a guest, please contact Jennifer S. to RSVP and for carpooling information.  We’d love to have a large group attend from Good Shepherd.

†     ATTENTION ALL GRADUATES  If you are graduating from high school, college, tech school, etc. we want to hear about it.  Please get a picture with a bio to the church office by April 24.  We want to publish your accomplishments and future plans in the May issue of the Shepherd’s Staff.  Parents, we may need your help with this, we don’t want to leave anyone out, but if we don’t have the information we can’t print it.  Thanks.

     FOOD DRIVE FOR BRIGHT FUTURES ends next Sunday!  There is a list of items needed hanging on the Christian Education bulletin board in the narthex.  If you haven’t had a chance to help out and would like to, bring your items next Sunday and place them in the container provided in the narthex.  If you have questions contact Nicole B.  Thanks for your help!

† MUSIC MEETING  There will be a music meeting today after late service.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF) will be meeting at the church this evening at 6:00 pm.

† PRAYER PARTNERS KICK-OFF  Today at 10:15 am in the conference room there will be a get together to kick-off our Prayer Partners.  If you are a part of this group, you are to pray for each other daily.  If you want to call each other or send encouraging notes you may, but it is not a must to be in this program.  The main purpose is for prayers.  If you’d like to be a part of this group, come and join us this morning!

† WEDNESDAY TIME CHANGES FOR LENT  Band practice will remain at 5:30 pm.  Jr. Confirmation and all other activities will begin at 6:00 pm in order to allow everyone to attend the Midweek Lenten services.

† MIDWEEK CLASSES  We will not be having Midweek Classes through the Lenten season.

† EASTER EGG HUNT  The LYF will be filling the plastic eggs for the annual Sunday School Easter Egg hunt.  They are asking the congregation for donations of bags of individually wrapped candy, small prizes, or rolls of nickels/dimes.  Your donations can be placed in the container provided in the youth room or they can be dropped off in the church office.  Please bring your donations by next Sunday.  Thanks for your help with this project!

† EASTER LILIES  If you would like to purchase one or more lilies to help adorn our sanctuary on Easter, please use the sign up sheet in the narthex.  The cost is $8.00 each.  Please pay Diana Endicott. 

† EASTER BREAKFAST SIGN UP  The Easter breakfast sign up sheet is in the narthex on the round table.  Please take a moment to check it over and then put your name by what you are willing to bring.

† MEXICO TRIP  Gretchen and Ethan N. are going on the Refuge Ranch Mexico mission trip and are trying to raise some money.  They would be willing to do odd jobs (babysitting, mowing, spring cleaning, etc.) for anyone interested in helping out.  If you would like to use their services, contact Gretchen.

FOOD DRIVE  Bright Futures Carthage, an organization that sends food snack packs home from school on the weekends with children in need, is running low on food supplies.  Nicole B. helps with this organization and would like to have a food drive here at Good Shepherd through April 20.  There is a list of items needed hanging on the Christian Education bulletin

† JR CONFIRMATION RETREAT  There are seven youth and two adult counselors currently at the Jr Confirmation Retreat at Camp Windermere.  Pray for safe travel as they return this afternoon.

† LWML will meet this Tuesday at 6:30 pm. (No foolin’)

† CONFERENCE ROOM FURNITURE  Make sure to take a look in the conference room and check out the new furniture that was purchased by a generous, anonymous donor.  What a beautiful addition to the room!  Thank you!
