Announcements — August 3, 2014

† IN OUR PRAYERS Virginia S.,undergoing tests; Todd H. (Pastor’s nephew) and Sandy O.,recovering from surgery, Royce A. (Wynette Q.’s father),Paula B.,Mary C. and Tim S., undergoing treatment for cancer.

† PASTOR’S CLASS  If you are interested in learning more about the Lutheran Church and it’s teachings, are interested in joining the congregation, or would like a refresher course in church doctrine, Pastor is having an informational class next Sunday afternoon, Aug. 10, from 1:00-6:00 pm.  The class is informal and you are encouraged to bring along your questions.  Everyone is invited and welcome.  Please let Pastor know if you are planning to attend.

† VOTERS’ MEETING  There will be a voters’ meeting today at 7:00 pm.  One of the important agenda items for the meeting will be the possibility of establishing a paid position for Earl Kirn.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF)  has settled on a date for their lake day.  It will be after Sunday School & Adult Bible Class on     August 17.  Bring a packed lunch and be ready to leave for some sun and fun on the lake in Pastor’s boat!  There will be a regular LYF planning meeting here at the church today at 6:00 pm.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ MEETING today after Sunday School & Adult Bible Class.  Current teachers and anyone who is interested in helping with Sunday School are encouraged to attend.  Pastor plans to discuss this quarter’s material and Earl Kirn will be getting things lined up for class divisions.  A light lunch will be provided.

† WEIRD ANIMALS VBS was a huge success.  Thanks to everyone who helped this year.  The kids had a wonderful week learning about weird    animals and how Jesus’ love is one-of-a-kind!  Even when you are left out,  are different, don’t understand, do wrong, or are afraid, JESUS LOVES YOU!!!

† LWML MEETING  The LWML will be meeting this Tues., August 5, at 6:30 pm in the fellowship hall.  All ladies of the congregation are encouraged to be a part of this church mission group.

† IT’S COMING!  GSLC is going whole hog!  On Sept. 28, GSLC will host a community outreach event featuring a hog roast and a showcase of our musical talent.  To express your interest, talk with Rob S. or Earl K.

† CUSTODIAL POSITION  The Trustees are looking for an individual to clean the upstairs portion of the church building.  Contact Justin M. or any of the Trustees if you are interested in this position.

† VOLUNTEERS NEEDED  LifeChoices is looking for volunteers and medical professionals who would like to invest in the lives of others by training to be a Client Advocate.  All that is required is a willing heart, teachable spirit, love for God and four hours per week.  Training begins in October.  If you are interested in this ministry opportunity, please contact Seantel Coffey at 417-623-0131.

† VBS 2014 STARTS TODAY  This year’s VBS theme is,Weird Animals, Where Jesus’ Love is One-of-a-Kind.   It starts today and goes through Thursday, July 31, 6:00-8:00 pm, every evening.  There will be a light dinner offered each evening at 5:30.  Registration forms are on the round table.  If your child plans to attend, please fill one out and place it in the basket provided.  You can also pick up a CD with this year’s music on it.  Please take only one per family.

† VBS ADULT CLASS  New this year, Pastor will be offering an adult Bible Study along with the VBS program.  Adults are invited to come and learn about what the children are studying.

† VBS WORK DAY   Today right after Sunday School & Adult Bible Class there will be a setup time for VBS to get everything finished up for this evening.  Anyone who would like to help bring this year’s VBS to life is encouraged to stay and help out!

† ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF) will have a short meeting at the church this evening at 6:00 pm.  Please try to attend because they will be picking a new date for the lake day and making plans!

† CHURCH COUNCIL  The Church Council will meet tonight at 7:00 pm.

† THANK YOU  I would like to thank Pastor for the comforting service, the thoughts and prayers, and those who brought food at the sudden passing of Bud.  Love you all, Ruby S. & family.

† THRIVENT WORKSHOP  Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will be the location for a Thrivent Workshop dealing with long-term care on Wed., July 23, at 6:00 pm.  Dinner will be served and it is free to attend.  The workshop will be hosted by Thomas Mehl, Financial Consultant, and presented by John Estes, Managing Partner.  Please join them to learn how to make long-term care part of your overall financial strategy and give your family the opportunity to care about you instead of for you.  There are still openings for the workshop.  We are asking for RSVP by Mon., July 21, to reserve your spot.  You do not have to be a Thrivent member to attend.  This is an educational and informational program only.  Nothing will be sold.  Contact Thom Mehl at (888)243-8225 or email beth.mehl@thrivent.com.

Announcements — July 13, 2014

† IN OUR PRAYERS S. family, at the death of Bud S.; Paula B.,Mary C., and Tim S., undergoing treatment for cancer.

† BUD SALOGA  Maynard (Bud) Arthur Saloga, 81, was received into his Savior’s arms July 3, 2014, while working at his home in Carthage.  He was born Nov. 25, 1932, in Monett, MO, the son of Oscar Saloga and Ceclia “Schad” Saloga.  He was baptized December 18, 1932, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Purdy, MO and on May 4, 1947 would confirm his Christian faith through the Rite of Confirmation at St. John’s.  He graduated from Purdy High School with the class of 1951.  Bud served in the United States Air Force.  Bud was united in marriage to Ruby Ann Lampe on Feb. 17, 1962, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, MO.  Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Nancy Jane and Katherine Ann.  He worked for Standard Oil both as a station owner in Monett and as a bulk agent from 1964 to 1976.  Bud then owned and operated B & R Rebuilders in Carthage from 1976 until he retired in 2001.  Bud was a charter and active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he regularly worshipped and participated in congregational activities.  Services were held on Monday, July 7, at 2:00 pm here at the church.  Burial was in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Lutheran Cemetery Fund in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. 

† GERMANY PRESENTATION  Today during Bible Class, Pastor will give a presentation on the trip to Germany.  There will be a potluck meal following the presentation.  Fried chicken and drinks will be provided.  Come and enjoy hearing not only about this wonderful experience, but also learn some things about the life of Martin Luther.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF) will have a meeting at the church this evening at 6:00 pm.

† ELDERS’ MEETING this Monday evening at 7:00 pm.

† THE VBS KICK-OFF is today at the Carthage Municipal Park.There is a slight change in time.  Because of the heat, Kiddie Land will not open until 5:00 pm.   So come out at 4:30 for the cook-out.  Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.  Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share.  The festivities will conclude with swimming at the Carthage Municipal Pool from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  Join us for some summer fun & fellowship!

† VBS SIGN-UP  This year’s VBS will be held Sunday, July 27 – Thursday, July 31, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a light meal provided at 5:30 pm.  Registration forms are on the round table.  If your child plans to attend, please fill one out and place it in the basket provided.

† VBS WORK DAY  There will be a work day this Saturday, July 19, starting  at 9:00 am for anyone who wants to come and help make decorations and props to make this year’s VBS really come to life.
