† IN OUR PRAYERS Fred E. and family, at the death of Fred’s mother; Ruth H., undergoing rehab at Mt. Vernon Care Place; Karen L., recovering from surgery; Paula B.,undergoing treatment for cancer.

† CALENDAR BLUNDER  On the calendar in the January Newsletter, the communion Sunday schedule is opposite.  There will be communion in late service on Jan. 11 & 25.  There will be communion in early service on Jan. 18.  Sorry for any confusion.

† FLOWER URN  Diana E. has been unable to find the metal & glass urn that she uses to place the flowers on the altar most Sundays.  If you accidentally took it home or know where it is, she would appreciate it if you would bring it back or let her know where to find it.  Thanks for your help.

† CONGREGATIONAL MEETING  Today, during the Sunday School hour, there will be another informational meeting led by the Elders concerning Pastor’s retirement.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP will meet this evening at the church at 6:00 pm.

† CHURCH COUNCIL will meet tonight at 7:00 pm.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL STAFF & TEACHERS’ MEETING  On Sunday, January 25, there will be a Sunday School staff & teachers’ meeting after the late service.  Sara T., Director of Christian Education, would like those involved in Sunday School to get together and let her know how things are going and start planning for this year.  A light lunch will be provided!

† HEAD START ON SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY  Through the month of January we are asking for canned soup, dried beans and rice to help fill the shelves at Crosslines of Carthage.  Bring your donations and place them in the round container in the narthex or the shopping cart in the entry downstairs.       Everyone wins when we team up to help!

† 2014 CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS are ready for you to pick up.  They are on the round table in the narthex.

† LUTHERAN WITNESS SUBSCRIPTIONS  It’s about your faith, your church, your world.  Subscription cost is $15.96.  A sign up sheet is in the narthex and you can pay by simply writing a check to Good Shepherd and putting Lutheran Witness in the memo line.

† FLOWER CHART  There are several empty spots coming up on the flower chart. If you would like to place flowers at the altar for a special occasion or in memory of someone, please sign the flower chart hanging on the wall next to the water fountain in the hallway.  Simply write your name, phone number, and     occasion with the pen provided.

† OFFERING ENVELOPES  The 2015 offering envelopes are on the table in the narthex.  Please remember to discard your 2014 envelopes and use only the 2015 envelopes.  If you do not see your name and want envelopes, please    contact the church office.  Likewise, if you prefer not to use them and see your name, simply write NO on the label.

† PORTALS OF PRAYER  The new Portals of Prayer for the winter are on the table by the nursery in the narthex.

† LWML QUARTERLIES  The new Quarterlies are on the table by the    nursery in the narthex.  Ladies, remember to pick one up!

† POINSETTIAS  There are extra poinsettias from Christmas on the round table in the narthex.  Anyone who would like a poinsettia is welcome to take one.

† NEW YEAR’S SERVICE WITH HOLY COMMUNION  There will be a special New Year’s Eve service on Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00.  During the service we will also remember those loved ones who are now in God’s grace and comfort.  Begin the New Year worshiping the Lord.

† MANY THANKS to all those who worked so hard to make the Children’s Program a wonderful success.  We thank director, Shelley W., the many helpers and all the parents.  You are appreciated!  Thank you, children, for your special message.

† STEPHEN MINISTRY is a program of Christ caring for people through caring people.  We are in the process of developing our GSLC Stephen Ministry.  More information will be coming to you in the next few weeks and months.  For more information now, you can contact Curt S., Janet C., Brenda D., Clarice O., or Earl K.

† ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

† BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the nurse’s office   after the service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

 

Announcements — December 21, 2014

† IN OUR PRAYERS Linda D., recovering at home; Ruth H., undergoing rehab at Mt. Vernon Care Place; Doretta F., Karen L., recovering from surgery; Paula B., undergoing treatment for cancer.

† BAPTISM  We rejoice with Damon and Lauren F. at the baptism of their daughter, Makenna Nicole F., this morning during the late service.  Makenna was born June 22, 2014.  Her sponsors are her aunt, Katie C., and her uncle, Adam S.  We ask God’s blessings on Makenna and her family.

† NEW MEMBERS  We receive and welcome today as new members, Donya A., Matt H. and Jason O., through Adult Confirmation.  We are glad to have you as part of our congregation!

† THE FUMBLY, BUMBLY ANGELS  Our Sunday School Christmas Program will be held this evening at 7:00 pm.  Along with a rehearsal    during Sunday School today, there will be a rehearsal after the late service.  Come and enjoy hearing about the good news of our saviors’ birth being shared by our children!

† SPECIAL SERVICES THIS WEEK

7:00 pm Wed. Christmas Eve candlelight service with Holy Communion.

10:45 am Thurs. Christmas Day Worship Service with Holy Communion.

† CHRISTMAS CAROLING  Lutheran Youth Fellowship will be hosting a congregational Christmas caroling evening tomorrow, Dec. 22,  at 5:00 pm.  There will be hot chocolate and cookies for everyone to share.  Come and join in warming the hearts of others this season!

† INVITATION POSTCARDS  Due to a special donation, a special  postcard will be mailed to many people in the area around the church     inviting them to our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services.  If you see someone you don’t recognize, welcome them warmly; they may be one of our neighbors.  There are extra postcards on the table that you are welcome to take and give to anyone you would like to personally invite.

† POINSETTIAS  If you would like to purchase a poinsettia(s) to help adorn the sanctuary at Christmas (as in the past, it’s yours to take home after Christmas), please use the sign-up sheet on the table in the narthex.  The cost is $8.00 each.  See Diana E. about payment, and if you have any questions.
