Announcements — September 7, 2014

† IN OUR PRAYERS Mary F., home with her daugher; Todd H. (Pastor’s nephew) and Sandy O., recovering from surgery; Royce A. (Wynette Q.’s father)Paula B.Mary C., and Howard S. undergoing treatment for cancer.

† ELDERS’ MEETING  There will be an Elders’ Meeting this Monday at    7:00 pm.

† BACK TO TWO SERVICES  Today we return to our regular two services.  Worship services will be at 8:15 and 10:45 am with Sunday School and Adult  Bible Class at 9:30 am.  Holy Communion will be alternated between the two  services starting with the 10:45 service today.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY DAY is today.  It will start with the annual balloon launch during the Sunday School hour and end with a fall festival starting after the 10:45 service.

† ADULT BIBLE CLASS  Pastor will be starting a new session this Sunday in Adult Bible Class covering Galatians.

† SPECIAL MUSIC MEETING today after the 10:45 service.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP will have their regular meeting tonight at 6:00 pm here at the church.

† JR CONFIRMATION instruction will start this Wednesday, September 10, at 6:30 pm.  The class will end at 7:30 pm.  Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation and a notebook will be provided, but each student will need to bring their own Bible.  A parents’ meeting will be held after each worship service today, to go over the particulars of the class and answer any questions.

† LWML MITE BOX  If you are looking for a place to put your spare change, check out the new LWML Mite box, purchased in memory of Lois Morehead, on the round table in the narthex.  The LWML collects this money and then it used to support world-wide mission projects.  It is amazing what these Mites can do.

† IT’S COMING!  GSLC is going whole hog!  On Sept. 28, GSLC will host a community outreach event and fund raiser featuring a hog roast and a showcase of our musical talent.  To express your interest, talk with Rob S. or Earl K.

† WHOLE HOG NEEDS  Jennifer S. is gathering food items, paper products and monetary donations to complete the BBQ dinner on September 28 for the community outreach project.  Dinner will include: pulled pork sandwiches, chips, beans and a brownie.  Specific items needed are listed on sign-up sheets on the round table in the Narthex.  Please stop by and let us know how you might be able to help!  Thank you!

† MIDWEEK CLASSES will once again be offered along with Jr Confirmation class, if there are children interested.  The classes would start this Wednesday, Sept. 10, and go from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.  If you have a child who will be attending, please sign up on the sheet on the round table in the narthex.  You can also contact Earl Kirn if you would like any information or have questions.

† OVER-50 GOOD SHEPHERDS will meet this Thursday evening at 6:00 pm. Come join us for games, food, fellowship and fun.

† TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL in Freistatt, MO, will be celebrating their 140th anniversary on September 14.  We are invited to join them for a day full of festivities starting at 8:30 am and going into the afternoon.  The theme for the celebration is “Furthering the Kingdom of Christ”.  For questions, please contact Betty Sawyer at 417-825-5697.

† LUTHERAN FAMILY AND CHILDREN SERVICES  LFCS is offering a workshop with the purpose of building Missouri’s capacity for future disasters.  If you are interested, you can pick up an informational sheet on the round table in the narthex.

† TIM SWAINE  There will be a military memorial service for Tim Swaine here on the church grounds Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10:00 am.

† THE ELDERS AND CHURCH COUNCIL are meeting at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 2, with Pastor Mirly, President of the Missouri District, about Pastor’s upcoming retirement.

† SHEPHERD’S OWN men’s chorus will resume weekly rehearsals beginning Wednesday, September 3, at 6:30 pm.  Anyone who is interested in singing in this men’s four-part harmony group is welcome to join in the fun.

† FROM THE CARTHAGE CRISIS CENTER FLYER…  We need your help immediately.  If you are on Facebook, we are in a contest sponsored by Beimdiek Insurance.  We need you to go to themegafandome page with your computer, like it and bookmark it.  Then go to the 2014 Community Grant-Vote icon and hit it.  Register your vote for the Carthage Crisis Center everyday through Sept. 5.  If we win we get a cash prize.  Please help!  If you would like to read the whole flyer, there are copies available in the information area to the right of the glass doors.  There’s also a yellow page with info about their recycling solution you can pick up.

† A THANK YOU to Pastor, the Elders, and the voters of the congregation!  Very great is my gratitude for the opportunity you have given me to serve our Good Shepherd and assist our Good Shepherd Church in the role of Lay Assistant.  Thank you!                  ~Earl Kirn

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF) is leaving for the lake today right after Sunday School & Adult Bible Class.  Also, if you plan on attending the Casting Crowns concert on Friday, Oct. 31, in Springfield, MO, your ticket money ($18.00 per ticket) needs to be turned in today so we can purchase the tickets tomorrow.

† MEAL DELIVERY  This Monday, Aug. 18, through Friday, Aug. 22, is Good Shepherd’s week to deliver meals for the Over-60 Center.  If you can help with this worthwhile project, please contact Betty E.

† WEDNESDAY MORNING SCRIPTURE STUDY will not meet this Wednesday, August 20.  Class will resume on Wednesday, August 27.

† THRIVENT MEETING  The next Thrivent Chapter meeting will be  at 6:30 pm on August, 18 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  Everyone is   welcome and invited to attend.

† CUSTODIAL POSITION  The Board of Trustees is looking for an  individual to clean the upstairs portion of the church building.  Contact  Justin M. or any of the Trustees if you are interested in this position.

† VOTERS NEWS  Some items from the Voters’ Meeting on Aug. 3:

+ The treasurer’s report shows our offerings so far this year have not kept up with our expenses by over $8,000.

+ Earl K. has been hired as the Lay Assistant.

+ Kathy S. has been hired as the Nursery attendant.

+ Pastor announced his plans to retire in July 2015.

FLOWER CHART  There are several empty dates coming up on the calendar in September.  If you would like to place flowers at the altar for a special occasion or in memory of someone, please sign the flower chart hanging on the wall by the water fountain

† PASTOR’S CLASS  If you are interested in learning more about the Lutheran Church and it’s teachings, are interested in joining the congregation, or would like a refresher course in church doctrine,    Pastor is having an informational class today from 1:00-6:00 pm.  The class is informal and you are encouraged to bring along your questions.  Everyone is invited and welcome.  Please let Pastor know if you are planning to attend.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF)  We are going to the lake next Sunday (17th) after Sunday School & Adult Bible Class.  Bring a packed lunch and be ready to leave for some sun and fun on the lake.  Please bring a favorite snake and drink to be shared later in the day and some money for food on the way back home in the evening.

† WEIRD ANIMALS VBS was a huge success.  Thanks to everyone who helped this year.  The kids had a wonderful week learning about weird animals and how Jesus’ love is one-of-a-kind!  Even when you are left out, are different, don’t understand, do wrong, or are afraid,  JESUS LOVES YOU!!!

† VOLUNTEERS NEEDED  LifeChoices is looking for volunteers and medical professionals who would like to invest in the lives of others by training to be a Client Advocate.  All that is required is a willing heart, teachable spirit, love for God and four hours per week. Training begins in October.  If you are interested in this ministry opportunity, please contact Seantel Coffey at 417-623-0131.

† PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex by nursery) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.

† ASSISTIVELISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.
