{"id":861,"date":"2012-08-19T07:56:25","date_gmt":"2012-08-19T13:56:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gslc-carthage.dreamhosters.com\/?p=861"},"modified":"2012-08-19T07:56:25","modified_gmt":"2012-08-19T13:56:25","slug":"announcements-august-19-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gslc-carthage.org\/?p=861","title":{"rendered":"Announcements &#8212; August 19, 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>IN OUR PRAYERS<\/strong>\u00a0 Don H., Jack H., Phil T., undergoing treatment for cancer; Margaret J., at St. Luke\u2019s, Carthage; Bonnie L., at Carthage Health and Rehab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GSLC YOUTH<\/strong>\u00a0 This evening at 6:30 all youth of high school age, and at least one parent, are asked to attend a meeting to set up plans for the coming school year and next summer\u2019s National Youth Gathering in Texas.\u00a0 The meeting will take place in the Fellowship Hall.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>SOFTBALL<\/strong>\u00a0 The co-ed team will play Monday evening at 6:30.\u00a0 The men\u2019s team will play Tuesday evening at 7:30.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SUNDAY SCHOOL\/EDUCATION WORKDAY<\/strong>\u00a0 This Saturday, Aug. 25, we\u2019re going to organize and set up classrooms and the old quilter\u2019s room for use, beginning at 10 a.m.\u00a0 Teachers and loving parents are heartily invited!\u00a0 Lunch provided if needed.\u00a0 The more hands, the better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FOOD CAMPAIGN FOR CROSSLINES<\/strong>\u00a0 The pantry at Crosslines is getting bare.\u00a0 The August Newsletter has a list of food needed.\u00a0 Please give what you can.\u00a0 They are not in need of clothing or canned vegetables.\u00a0 August donation goal for Good Shepherd is 250 items.\u00a0 We thank you.\u00a0 <em>UPDATE!<\/em>\u00a0 We are now at 175 items&#8230;75 more to go to meet our goal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SHOES FOR AFRICA MISSION PROJECT<\/strong>\u00a0 There are thousands of men, women and children in Africa that don\u2019t own even one pair of shoes.\u00a0 The Lutheran Women\u2019s Missionary League is collecting used shoes through the month of August that will be sent to Africa.\u00a0 Help by bringing shoes you no longer wear or want and place them in the\u00a0 \u201cbig shoe box\u201d in the narthex.\u00a0 All sizes and styles are needed.\u00a0 Tying shoe strings together, or putting a rubber band around individual pairs, would be a big help.\u00a0 Thanks!\u00a0 Please have shoes here by next Sunday, Aug. 26.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DUCT TAPE FLOWER PENS<\/strong>, made by Russell M., have been placed in the back of the pews for you to use to sign the attendance book.\u00a0 Russell is the son of James &amp; Bethany M. and Pastor and Gerry\u2019s grandson.\u00a0 Thank you, Russell.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A REMINDER<\/strong>\u00a0 The fellowship we enjoy through visiting before our worship service begins is certainly very important and welcomed.\u00a0 Please remember when the organist begins playing and the candles are lit, our service has actually begun and you are encouraged to begin to quiet.\u00a0 This quiet time is a wonderful opportunity for personal prayer and to prepare yourself for worship.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>CD\u2019S AND TAPES OF THE SERVICE<\/strong>\u00a0 Audio tapes and CD\u2019s of the service are available after the service each Sunday.\u00a0 They are located in the glassed-door cabinet in the narthex.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ASSISTIVE LISTENING<\/strong>\u00a0 If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.\u00a0 They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS<\/strong> are available in the narthex after the service.\u00a0 You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRAYER BEARS<\/strong> are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex) and given to anyone that needs God\u2019s love, comfort, and peace.\u00a0 We have had reports and words of thanks from folks being blessed by this outreach ministry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IN OUR PRAYERS\u00a0 Don H., Jack H., Phil T., undergoing treatment for cancer; Margaret J., at St. Luke\u2019s, Carthage; Bonnie L., at Carthage Health and Rehab.
