{"id":1406,"date":"2015-05-31T13:42:45","date_gmt":"2015-05-31T19:42:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gslc-carthage.dreamhosters.com\/?p=1406"},"modified":"2015-05-31T13:42:45","modified_gmt":"2015-05-31T19:42:45","slug":"announcements-may-31-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gslc-carthage.org\/?p=1406","title":{"rendered":"Announcements &#8212; May 31, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>IN OUR PRAYERS<\/b> <b><i>\u00a0Sara T.<\/i><\/b>, diagnosed with cancer;<b><i> Raymond S.<\/i><\/b>, rehabbing after a fall; <b><i>Ruth H.<\/i><\/b>,<b><i> Letitia L.<\/i><\/b>,<b><i> Carol L.<\/i><\/b>, recovering at home;<b><i> Paula B.<\/i><\/b>, <b><i>April K.<\/i><\/b>, undergoing\u00a0 treatment for cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>CONGRATULATIONS\u00a0 <\/b>We rejoice with Nathan &amp; Elizabeth D. at the birth of their baby girl, Lillian Grace.\u00a0 She was born May 21, in Joplin, MO.\u00a0 Lillian is the granddaughter of Gay Lynne D.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>CONGRATULATIONS\u00a0 <\/b>We rejoice with Wes S. &amp; Morgan S. at the birth of their baby boy, Barrett Michael.\u00a0 He was born May 22, in Joplin, MO.\u00a0 Barrett is the grandson of Mike &amp; Marla S. and the great-grandson of Linda S.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>BAKED POTATO DINNER <\/b>\u00a0The Lutheran Youth Fellowship (LYF) is holding a Baked Potato Dinner today right after the late service.\u00a0 There will be a potato bar with a variety of toppings, drinks, and desserts!\u00a0 This will be a fundraising event for the National Youth Gathering that the group will be attending in the summer of 2016.\u00a0 It would be great to have the whole congregation come together and enjoy lunch, fellowship and support our youth!<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>SUMMER WORSHIP\u00a0 <\/b>Starting next Sunday, for the summer months, we will have one worship service on Sunday and it will begin at 9:00 am.\u00a0\u00a0 Sunday School and Bible class will be at 10:30 am.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>LYF TRIP\/LOCK-IN\u00a0 <\/b>As a welcome for the new confirmands, the LYF group will be going on a hiking trip and finishing up with a lock-in here at the church on Saturday, June 6 &#8211; Sunday, June 7.\u00a0 The group will meet at the church Saturday morning at 8:30 am.\u00a0 Bring a sack lunch to eat before the hike.\u00a0 More details in the June newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>STEPHEN <\/b><b>MIINISTRY NEWS <\/b>\u00a0Earl Kirn has recently been trained as a Stephen Ministry leader.\u00a0 He joins Janet Chambers who had previously been trained as a leader.\u00a0 They\u00a0both are capable and willing to teach and train additional Stephen Ministers.\u00a0 Tentatively, we are planning a class starting in the fall.\u00a0 After the services on May 31 and June 7, several\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 members of the\u00a0recently created Stephen Minister Board will be available in the conference room to provide additional information and to answer\u00a0\u00a0 questions about becoming a Stephen Minister.\u00a0 We encourage anyone\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 interested in this ministry to stop in and learn more about this distinctively Christian caregiving Ministry.\u00a0 Feel free to ask questions at any time of any of our current Board members, Earl K., Janet C., Clarice O., Brenda D., and Curt S.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER &amp; VBS MEETING<\/b> on Sunday, June 14, right after Sunday School.\u00a0 Anyone interested in helping with VBS or Sunday School is encouraged to attend.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>CHOIR\u00a0 <\/b>A special choir, directed by Sue S., will be forming for the summer.\u00a0 We would like to have as many voices as possible.\u00a0 Practices will be on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm.\u00a0 For questions, please contact Sue S. or Linda D.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>SPECIAL VOTERS\u2019 MEETING\u00a0 <\/b>At the special Voters\u2019 meeting on Sunday, May 17<sup>th<\/sup>, Voters unanimously approved a Call to Rev. Roger Mackie as the Intentional Interim Pastor based on the recommendation of the Board of Elders.\u00a0 The Board of Elders will continue to work with the District President and Rev. Mackie regarding details of the Call.\u00a0 We hope to hear from Rev.
