July 13, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>IN <\/b><b>OUR PRAYERS<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><b><i>S. family<\/i><\/b><b>, <\/b>at the death of Bud S.; <b><i>Paula B.<\/i><\/b>,<b><i>Mary C.<\/i><\/b>, and <b><i>Tim S.<\/i><\/b>, undergoing treatment for cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>BUD <\/b><b>SALOGA\u00a0 <\/b>Maynard (Bud) Arthur Saloga, 81, was received into his Savior\u2019s arms July 3, 2014, while working at his home in Carthage.\u00a0 He was born Nov. 25, 1932, in Monett, MO, the son of Oscar Saloga and Ceclia &#8220;Schad&#8221; Saloga.\u00a0 He was baptized December 18, 1932, at St. John\u2019s Lutheran Church, Purdy, MO and on May 4, 1947 would confirm his Christian faith through the Rite of Confirmation at St. John\u2019s.\u00a0 He graduated from Purdy High School with the class of 1951.\u00a0 Bud served in the United States Air Force.\u00a0 Bud was united in marriage to Ruby Ann Lampe on Feb. 17, 1962, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, MO.\u00a0 Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Nancy Jane and Katherine Ann.\u00a0 He worked for Standard Oil both as a station owner in Monett and as a bulk agent from 1964 to 1976.\u00a0 Bud then owned and operated B &amp; R Rebuilders in Carthage from 1976 until he retired in 2001.\u00a0 Bud was a charter and active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he regularly worshipped and participated in congregational activities.\u00a0 Services were held on Monday, July 7, at 2:00 pm here at the church.\u00a0 Burial was in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Cemetery.\u00a0 Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Lutheran Cemetery Fund in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.<b>\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>GERMANY <\/b><b>PRESENTATION\u00a0 <\/b>Today during Bible Class, Pastor will give a presentation on the trip to Germany.\u00a0 There will be a potluck meal following the presentation.\u00a0 Fried chicken and drinks will be provided.\u00a0 Come and enjoy hearing not only about this wonderful experience, but also learn some things about the life of Martin Luther.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF) <\/b>will have a meeting at the church this evening at 6:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>ELDERS\u2019 MEETING <\/b>this Monday evening at 7:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>THE VBS KICK-OFF <\/b>is today at the Carthage Municipal Park.There is a slight change in time.\u00a0 Because of the heat, Kiddie Land will not open until 5:00 pm.\u00a0\u00a0 So come out at 4:30 for the cook-out.\u00a0 Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.\u00a0 Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share.\u00a0 The festivities will conclude with swimming at the Carthage Municipal Pool from 6:00 &#8211; 8:00 pm.\u00a0 Join us for some summer fun &amp; fellowship!<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>VBS SIGN-UP\u00a0 <\/b>This year\u2019s VBS will be held Sunday, July 27 &#8211; Thursday, July 31, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a light meal provided at 5:30 pm.\u00a0 Registration forms are on the round table.\u00a0 If your child plans to attend, please fill one out and place it in the basket provided.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>VBS WORK DAY <\/b>\u00a0There will be a work day this Saturday, July 19, starting\u00a0 at 9:00 am for anyone who wants to come and help make decorations and props to make this year\u2019s VBS really come to life.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>IT\u2019S COMING!\u00a0 <\/b>GSLC is going whole hog!\u00a0 This fall, at a date yet to be announced, GSLC will host a community outreach event featuring a hog roast and a showcase of our musical talent.\u00a0 To express your interest, talk with Rob Sager or Earl Kirn.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>LUTHERAN NIGHT\u00a0 <\/b>Friday, August 1, is the date for this year\u2019s Lutheran Night with the Springfield Baseball Cardinals.\u00a0 Game time is 7:10 pm.\u00a0 Tickets will be $7.00 each with $1.00 going to the Lutheran Children &amp; Family Services.\u00a0 There is a sign-up sheet on the round table in the narthex and Jim Garoutte will be collecting the money.<\/p>\n<p><b>THRIVENT WORKSHOP\u00a0 <\/b>Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will be the\u00a0\u00a0 location for a Thrivent Workshop dealing with long-term care on Wed., July 23,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 at 6:00 pm.\u00a0 Dinner will be served and it is free to attend.\u00a0 The workshop will be hosted by Thomas Mehl, Financial Consultant and presented by John Estes,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Managing Partner.\u00a0 Please join them to learn how to make long-term care part of your overall financial strategy and give your family the opportunity to care about you instead of for you.\u00a0 Space is limited, so please RSVP by Monday, July 21, to<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2020\u00a0IN OUR PRAYERS\u00a0S. family, at the death of Bud S.;
