{"id":1241,"date":"2014-07-13T13:34:52","date_gmt":"2014-07-13T19:34:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gslc-carthage.dreamhosters.com\/?p=1241"},"modified":"2014-07-13T13:34:52","modified_gmt":"2014-07-13T19:34:52","slug":"announcements-july-6-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gslc-carthage.org\/?p=1241","title":{"rendered":"Announcements &#8212; July 6, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>IN <\/b><b>OUR PRAYERS<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><b><i>E. family<\/i><\/b>, at the death of <b><i>Fern H.<\/i><\/b>;<b> S. family, <\/b>at the death of Bud S.; <b><i>Howard S.<\/i><\/b>, <b><i>Ruth B.<\/i><\/b>,recovering at home; <b><i>Paula B.<\/i><\/b>,<b><i>Mary C.<\/i><\/b>, and <b><i>Tim S.<\/i><\/b>, undergoing treatment for cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>FERN <\/b><b>H. \u00a0<\/b>Fern Christene H., 95, passed away July 1, 2014, at Webb City Health and Rehab. Fern was born September 24, 1918, in Carthage, MO, the daughter of Homer Guy Harris and Susan Fern Holderman Harris.\u00a0 She married Karl Eugene H. on October 31, 1937.\u00a0 Fern is survived by two daughters, Judy Kay S. and husband Charles, and Gloria Jean E. and husband Vernon (Sonny); four grandchildren, Guy S. of Dallas, Heather Elder R. and husband Pete of Carthage, Greg S. and wife Laura of Branson, and Peter E. and wife Taryn of Carthage; eight great-grandchildren, Kimberly S., Austin R., Caleb E., Dustin S., Tanner R., Jayden E., Jensyn E., and Jaxon E.; two great-great-grandchildren, Johnathan P. (E.), and Maycy S.\u00a0 One great-grandchild, Marissa R., preceded her in death.\u00a0 Fern was involved with her church most of her adult life.\u00a0 She was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Carthage.\u00a0 She was also active in Extension Club.\u00a0 Services were held Thursday, July 3, at 2:00 p.m. here at the church. Interment followed in Curtis Cemetery in Carthage, MO.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>BUD S.\u00a0<\/b>passed away on Thursday, July 3.\u00a0 The plans for the\u00a0\u00a0 funeral\u00a0 services will be announced.\u00a0 Our prayers go out to his family at this time of loss.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>GERMANY <\/b><b>PRESENTATION <\/b>On July 13, during Bible Class time,\u00a0 Pastor Schnackenberg will give a presentation on the trip to Germany.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Because it is likely that this will last a little longer than the normal Bible class hour and it will be getting over around lunch time, it has been decided that a <b><i>potluck meal <\/i><\/b>is in order.\u00a0 Please bring a dish to share and we will enjoy a light meal afterward.\u00a0 Drinks will be provided.\u00a0 Come and enjoy hearing not only about this wonderful experience, but also learn some things about the life of Martin Luther.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>BLACK EYES\u00a0 <\/b>Pastor Schnackenberg had minor surgery on his eyelids last week to improve his vision.\u00a0 The surgery went great but it did result in some swelling and bruising around his eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>THE VBS KICK-OFF <\/b>is next Sunday, July 13, at the Carthage Municipal Park.The fun will start at 4:00 pm with rides at Kiddie Land.\u00a0 There is a cook-out at 5:00 pm.\u00a0 Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.\u00a0 Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share.\u00a0 The festivities will conclude with swimming at the Carthage Municipal Pool from 6:00 &#8211; 8:00 pm.\u00a0 Join us for some summer fun &amp; fellowship!<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>VBS SIGN-UP\u00a0 <\/b>VBS registration forms are on the round table.\u00a0 If your child plans to attend, please fill one out and place it in the basket provided.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>VBS FOOD DONATIONS\u00a0 <\/b>If you would like to donate food supplies for this year\u2019s VBS dinners, there is a sign-up sheet on the round table.\u00a0 There is a container for the supplies under the coat rack in the narthex.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>IT\u2019S COMING!\u00a0 <\/b>GSLC is going whole hog!\u00a0 This fall, at a date yet to be announced, GSLC will host a community outreach event featuring a hog roast and a showcase of our musical talent.\u00a0 To express your interest talk to Rob Sager or Earl Kirn.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>LUTHERAN NIGHT\u00a0 <\/b>The date has been set for this year\u2019s Lutheran Night with the Springfield Baseball Cardinals.\u00a0 It will be held on Friday, August 1.\u00a0 Watch for more information soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>THRIVENT WORKSHOP\u00a0 <\/b>Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will be the location for a Thrivent Workshop dealing with long-term care on Wednesday, July 23, at 6:00 pm.\u00a0 Dinner will be served and it is free to attend.\u00a0 The workshop will be hosted by Thomas Mehl, Financial Consultant and presented by John Estes, Managing Partner.\u00a0 To reserve your place, please RSVP to Beth Mehl at (888) 243-8225 or email Beth.Mehl@thrivent.com.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>OVER-50 GOOD SHEPHERDS <\/b>meet this Thursday evening at 6:00.\u00a0 Come and join this informal group for food, fellowship, and games.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>PORTALS OF PRAYER\u00a0 <\/b>You will find the newest edition of the Portals of Prayer on the table by the nursery in the narthex.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>LWML QUARTERLIES <\/b>\u00a0The new Quarterlies are on the\u00a0\u00a0 table by the nursery in the narthex.\u00a0 Ladies, please remember to pick one up!<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>FLOWER CHART\u00a0 <\/b>There are several empty dates coming up on the calendar for the next few months.\u00a0 If you would like to place flowers at the altar for a special occasion or in memory of someone, please sign the flower chart hanging on the wall by the water fountain, outside the church office.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF) <\/b>will have a meeting at the church this evening at 6:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>VBS WORK DAY <\/b>\u00a0There will be a work day this Saturday, July 12, starting at 9:00 am for anyone who wants to come and help make decorations and props to make this year\u2019s VBS really come to life.<\/p>\n<p>\u2020\u00a0<b>THE EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORD\u00a0 <\/b>Lee Ann B. is leading a Bible Study during the summer months when we have one service.\u00a0 The class is held in the conference room from 8:00 am &#8211; 8:45 am on Sunday mornings before the 9:00 am service.\u00a0 If you have any questions, please contact Lee Ann.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2020\u00a0IN OUR PRAYERS\u00a0E. family, at the death of Fern H.; S. family, at the death of Bud S.; Howard S., Ruth B.,recovering at home; Paula B.,Mary C., and Tim S., undergoing treatment for cancer. \u2020\u00a0FERN H. \u00a0Fern Christene H., 95, passed away July 1, 2014, at Webb City Health and Rehab.
