Announcements — July 26, 2009

REMEMBER IN PRAYER:  Thelma M., at Freeman Hospital; Ann L., Marty J. and Chuck P., undergoing treatment.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL  This evening everyone is invited to the Ice Cream Social at 5:30 pm, sponsored by the Fellowship Committee.  Bring a pie or cake to share; the ice cream will be furnished.  It will precede the Voters’ Meeting, which will begin at 7:00 pm.

VOTERS’ MEETING  This evening at 7:00, after everyone has finished their ice cream and cake or pie, the Voters’ Assembly will assemble for its quarterly meeting.

SOFTBALL MAKE UP GAMES  The co-ed team will play Monday evening at 7:30.  The men’s team will play Tuesday evening at 8:30.  
                                            
GSLC BAND, RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS — any instrument, any age, any playing level.  Dust off those instruments you haven’t played in years, and come join us.  Karen promises the youth will go easy on you.  New music is on the way, and we need lots of instruments to make it sound really good.  Practices will resume Wednesday, July 29th, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.  Questions?  Contact Karen M.
     
TAPES OF THE SERVICE  Audio tapes of the service are available after the 8:15 am service each Sunday.  They are located in the glassed-door cabinet in the narthex.  Tapes of the previous Sunday are also available.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

BLOOD PRESSURE  After each service, at the table in the narthex, you have the opportunity to have your blood pressure taken.  You will be given a card to carry with you to record your readings.

BAKE SALE  The LWML is holding a bake sale today after both services. Your donations are greatly appreciated.  Proceeds will go towards purchasing much needed additional tables and chairs for the Fellowship Hall.

PASTOR & GERRY will be heading south this week for a vacation to visit an aunt who lives in Georgia.  They plan to be back sometime on Saturday.

SATURDAY LUNCHES  In the narthex is a sign up sheet for folks to help in the expansion process by furnishing a light lunch at noon on Saturdays for the Laborers and member volunteers.  We’ve made it so, if you choose, up to three families can share in this responsibility per date.  Just pick a Saturday and sign your name.  Your willingness is greatly appreciated.

LABORERS FOR CHRIST Gary and Pat F., Paul & Rhoda R., Bob & Lawanda K., and Gary & Violet L. will be commissioned during our worship today, to service our congregation in the building process as members of the Laborers for Christ. We welcome them and are very thankful for their dedication, not only to our building project, but to the building of God’s kingdom through their work as Laborers.

A GIANT THANK YOU to all who helped make VBS such as big success. Attendance for the week was over 50 childern and 25 adults and youth each evening. We thank the coordinators, teachers, cooks, helpers, parents, students, and congregation who so generously gave time, money and food donations. It was a rockin’ time!

PASTOR’S CLASS If you are interested in joining the church, learning more about Lutheran doctrine, or would like a review, Pastor will be having an information class this afternoon beginning at 1:00 pm. Let Pastor know if you would like to attend.

 THE CHURCH COUNCIL will meet this evening at 7:00 pm.

THE OVER-50 GOOD SHEPHERDS will meet this Thursday evening at 6:00 pm.

VBS BEGINS TOMORROW 5:30-8:30 pm If you haven’t had a chance to pre-register, there are still forms available on the table in the narthex. If you haven’t already provided a t-shirt, please send a white one with your child on Monday.

MISSION PROJECT FOR VBS All the offerings collected during VBS will go to help the Children’s Haven in Joplin. Children’s Haven is a place of safety for children whose families are in crisis.

FRIDAY VBS PROGRAM Friday evening there will be a closing VBS program put on by the children. They will give an overview of what they have learned, show the crafts they created, and sing songs they learned during the week. The congregation is invited.

VBS DINNER & SNACK DONATIONS The items needed each day to feed the Bible Schoolers and the staff are listed on sheets on the table in the narthex. Simply jot your name next to the items you will furnish and deliver to the church kitchen. Your help is greatly appreciated.

SANCTUARY FURNISHINGS COMMITTEE If you are interested in serving on this committee, please use the sign up sheet located at the information center in the narthex. Don L. will head up the committee, which will be responsible for making the decisions on the furnishings for the sanctuary, such as carpet, pews or chairs, etc.
