Announcements — March 9, 2014

† IN OUR PRAYERS  Lucas J., Savanna J., undergoing tests; Fern H., at Webb City Health and Rehab; Mike D., Tim S., Lois H. (Pastor and Mary’s sister), Andrea H. (Joann W.’s mother), and Paula B., undergoing treatment for cancer.

† 70 AND OVER DINNER  The youth group will be serving a four-course meal to those in our congregation who are 70 years of age (THREE score and ten) and older this evening at 5:00.  It is one way our youth wish to show their appreciation for these seasoned congregational members.  The youth hope you can join them for this wonderful evening.

† MUSIC MEETING today after the late service.

† ELDERS’ MEETING tomorrow evening at 7:00.

† MIDWEEK LENTEN SERVICES  We are having midweek Lenten services on Wednesdays at 11:00 am & 7:00 pm during the Lenten season.  Portions of the Passion story of Jesus will be read during each service.

† WEDNESDAY TIME CHANGES FOR LENT  Band practice will remain at 5:30 pm.  Jr. Confirmation and all other activities will begin at 6:00 pm in order to allow everyone to attend the Midweek Lenten services.

† EASTER EGG HUNT  The LYF will be filling the plastic eggs for the annual Sunday School Easter Egg hunt.  They are asking the congregation for donations of bags of individually wrapped candy, small prizes, or rolls of nickels/dimes.  Your donations can be placed in the container provided in the youth room or they can be dropped off in the church office.  Thanks for your help with this project!

† MEAL DELIVERY  Our week to deliver meals for the Over-60 Center is this week, March 10-14.  If you can help with this worthwhile project, please contact Betty E.

† OVER-50 GOOD SHEPHERDS meet this Thursday evening at 6:00.  Come and join this informal group for food, fellowship, and games.

† LUTHERAN SINGLES RETREAT  There will be a singles retreat the weekend of April 4-6, in Concordia, MO.  If you are interested, there are information and registration forms on the round table in the narthex.

† FLOWER CHART  There are lots of empty dates on the calendar.  If you would like to place flowers at the altar for a special occasion or in memory of someone, please sign the flower chart hanging on the wall next to the water fountain in the hallway.  Simply write your name, phone number, and occasion with the pen provided.

† SUNDAY SCHOOL  Are you interested in teaching a Sunday School class?  Do you want to be a substitute Sunday School teacher?  The Christian Education Committee is always looking for more help.  If you are interested, there is a sign up sheet posted on the Christian Education bulletin board in the narthex to the left of the elevator.

† LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (LYF) will meet this evening at the church at 6:00 pm.

† ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES  This Wednesday we begin our journey through Lent with the Ash Wednesday services at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm.  We will have the dispensation of ashes during the services for anyone wanting to participate.  The season of Lent, which will continue until Easter, has been a part of the church calendar for many, many years.  It is a time when we focus on the suffering and death of Jesus and ponder again what it means for our life and salvation.

† MIDWEEK CLASSES  Starting this Wednesday, March 5, and through Lent, we will not be having Midweek classes.

† GIDEON PRESENTATION  Chris Hodgson will be here today to give a short report after both services.  There will be an offering taken at the door to support their mission.

† SEMINAR  The Rev. Dr. Charles Gieschen, Professor of Exegetical Theology and Academic Dean, at Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN, will be exploring the manifestations of the pre-incarnate Son of God in the Old Testament, a subject that he has studied extensively for the past 25 years.  He will be speaking and answering questions at Grace Lutheran Church, 210 Poplar, Lamar, MO, on March 1-2.  For more information you may call Rev. † ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

† THE ANNUAL LADIES’ NIGHT OUT DINNER begins at 5:00 pm today.  Ladies, the men will be serving us, so come prepared for a nice dinner along with entertainment provided by Duke Mason.  Bring your favorite dessert to add to the famous dessert buffet.  Childcare will be available for the kids with dinner provided.  There will be an offering collected for Duke Mason.

† THANK YOU, THANK YOU!  Nan B. would like to say a special thank you to everyone who participated in the “Souper” Bowl can drive for Crosslines of Carthage.  After all the donations were tallied, Good Shepherd ended up donating a total of 626 items!  Wow, what a SUPER success it was!
